NBA Thursday Recap, March 3

Did Your Team Cover the Spread?

Seven games graced the hardcourts of the NBA on Thursday, including some highly anticipated fixtures.

One of those was the Atlanta Hawks vs Chicago Bulls. The Eastern Conference showdown lived up to expectations as Trae Young went off in the final quarter to secure the 130-124 win for the Hawks. Betting online markets had the Hawks as -2 favorites and scoring 40 points in the fourth did the job. The high-scoring game saw the over 235½ crushed.

Another marquee game was the Memphis Grizzlies vs Boston Celtics. The Celtics were favored by 2½ points, and although it got close at one stage, they were always in control when winning 120-107. The over 223½ looked like it had no chance of winning, but they combined for 135 second-half points to secure the money for over bettors. Jayson Tatum had 37 points, one less than Ja Morant who top-scored with 38 points.

Kevin Durant returned for the Brooklyn Nets with 31 points, but it wasn’t enough in the 113-107 defeat to the Miami Heat. It continued a dreadful run for the one-time Eastern Conference favorites, who are now at 32-32. Bam Adebayo continued his fine form with 30 points, which helped the Heat cover the +3 spread at the sportsbook. The Heat have been playing well and it was a good bounce-back win after losing to Milwaukee.

“We had a bad taste in our mouth after we lost last night,” Max Strus told ESPN. “I think we should have won that one as well, so coming back tonight with guys out, the team that we had, it was a special game and one we’ll remember for the rest of the season.”

The Detroit Pistons have been involved in some close games recently and Thursday was no different. They notched their 16th win with a 108-106 victory over the Toronto Raptors, who failed to cover the -8 spread. Saddiq Bey came up with the clutch bucket for the Pistons, in what was at times a dour game, but the excitement levels reached high levels in the fourth quarter.

The Dallas Mavericks continued their progression with a 122-113 win over the Golden State Warriors. Luka Doncic has the team humming on the back of his offense and he was instrumental again with 41 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. The Mavericks were -1½ favorites to win and the over 221 hit comfortably midway through the fourth quarter.

NBA betting odds had the San Antonio Spurs as -6½ favorites against the Sacramento Kings but they couldn’t get the job done. The Kings are talented on their day and they showed it when holding on for the much-needed win. It was a 13-point lead at halftime for the Kings, but the Spurs tried to peg them back late. It was an exciting game late and it secured the third away win on NBA Thursday.

Things are going from bad to worse for the Los Angeles Lakers, who suffered another loss. The Los Angeles Clippers put them to the sword early and the Lakers never recovered. They scored just 18 points in the third quarter, compared to the 40 points from the Clippers, so that’s where the damage was done. The 132-111 could spell danger for the front office and we might start to see heads roll. On the chopping block is Russell Westbrook, who just isn’t a good fit with the Lakers.
