NBA Wednesday Betting Recap: Points Galore
Overs Dominate Busy Day of NBA
High-Scoring Games Order of Day
It was a busy 11-game slate in the NBA and over bettors were the biggest winners with no shortage of points across the board. Let’s take a look at the NBA betting outcomes from across the slate.
The full game totals went 7-4 on the day, with some possibly nabbing an extra win on the San Antonio Spurs vs Portland Trail Blazers total that cleared the opening number.

The Boston Celtics continued their dominant run by dispatching of the Utah Jazz at the TD Garden in emphatic fashion. The Celtics comfortably covered the 4½-point spread that moved in favor of the road team after opening at -6.0 on early books.
Their offensive outburst also helped clear the total, which was sparked by a red-hot start that saw the team go 9-for-9 from the field before they finally missed a shot. It was also the first time in 12 games that the Jazz were held to under 100 points.
The New York Knicks were impressive 121-106 winners on the second night of a back-to-back as they too came out shooting lights out from deep against the Charlotte Hornets.
The Knicks, who were five-point underdogs, had a comfortable wire-to-wire cover as they came out and put up 40 points in the opening frame to set the tone for the rest of the game. Despite a final quarter that saw the teams combine for just 41 points, it still managed to go over the full game total of 225½ points.
The Atlanta Hawks were the other team on the second night of a back-to-back, but were the complete opposite of what they were at Madison Square Garden.
The Pistons won, and of course covered, as 4½-point underdogs in a game that stayed under the full game total despite the home side putting up 122 points. They too had a wire-to-wire cover, not once falling behind on the closing spread.
One game that also looked destined to go over the total before falling flat was a 110-109 win for the shorthanded Sacramento Kings over the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers closed as -8.0 point favorites, but spent most of the game playing catch-up after falling behind early.
A 71-point first quarter looked good for anyone one holding a ticket on over 233½ points, but things hit a brick wall in the second half as the sides combined for just 92 points.
Warriors Heat Up
The Golden State Warriors were the biggest underdog winners of the night, as they left South Beach with a 118-104 win over the Miami Heat.
Steve Kerr decided to sit Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Otto Porter Jr. for this one. Coupled with the absence of Steph Curry, the line ballooned from 5½ to 10½ by tip-off on all online sports betting platforms..
The most notable moment of the game however came when Miami’s Jimmy Butler and Erik Spoeltra exchanged words, before the former and assistant coach Udonis Haslem had to be separated following a heated exchange during a timeout.
“It was crazy,” said point guard Kyle Lowry. “It was passion.”
Despite this total plummeting from 215½ to a closing number of 209½ as mentioned in our NBA betting preview, this one coasted over the full game total thanks to a second half that saw the Warriors erupt for 68 points against one of the best defenses in the league.
The Memphis Grizzlies were impressive winners against the Brooklyn Nets, despite being without the service of Ja Morant. Memphis improved to 13-2 without their MVP candidate this season thanks to a 29-16 final quarter that saw them emerge 132-120 winners.
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving combined for 78 points, but the biggest win for Brooklyn was the news that Irving will be eligible to play in home games for the team down the stretch, with vaccine mandate changes set to take effect this week.
The Phoenix Suns also overcame the odds (again) as they won outright as two-point underdogs at Minnesota. The Suns trailed by 13 points at the half before exploding for 74 points in the second period, including a dominant 42-28 fourth-quarter display that helped this game also edge over the closing total of 239 points.
LeBron James sat out as the Los Angeles Lakers succumbed to another defeat, this time at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers. The team did manage to cover the spread as they fell 126-121 on a number that closed at 9½ in favor of the Eastern Conference side.
The Oklahoma City Thunder-Orlando Magic game was the only other to top the total as the home team emerged 118-102 winners 2½-point underdogs.
In the other games, the Dallas Mavericks used a big second-half effort to cover the spread as -10 point favorites over the Houston Rockets despite being without the services of Luka Doncic.
The San Antonio Spurs put an absolute beat-down on the Portland Trail Blazers in a game where the closing total mattered depending where you sat. The 133-96 final cleared the 228½ opener in some places, but stayed under the consensus closing number of 231 points thanks to a horrible fourth quarter that saw a combined 34 points scored.
