Orlando Magic Land Desmond Bane in Huge Trade with Memphis Grizzlies

The Magic Get Shooting, the Grizzlies Get Picks, and I Get Abandoned.

Hot Boy Summer, Canceled

I watch almost every Grizzlies game. That’s just what happens when your fiancé is from Memphis and you’re trying to be supportive. And I’ll admit, my favorite part of these games wasn’t always the basketball. It was Desmond Bane. My Memphis eye candy. My wide-shouldered, baby-faced king. And now he’s gone. Traded to Orlando. On Father’s Day, no less.

In return, the Grizz got Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks, and a pick swap. Which, fine, is a huge haul. Great value. Good job, everyone. But, did anyone for a second even think about me?

The Bane of My Existence

Desmond Bane, who turns 27 soon, averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists last season while shooting almost 40% from three. He’s built like a sexy bear and shoots like a sniper. Desmond Bane stats prove he’s one of the best guards in the league. And also, sorry, but he’s hot (if I haven’t made that obvious enough). Objectively. Handsome face.

And now he’s on the Magic. A team I haven’t willingly watched in years.

Win-Win, Still Hurts

I’m not gonna lie, the trade makes sense. Memphis hasn’t been that team for a minute. The “big three” of Ja, Jaren, and Bane never really got it done, and they probably weren’t going to. So yeah, I get it. Blow it up, get some picks, and try again later. It’s a seller’s market and everyone’s overpaying.

They also clearly believe in Jaylen Wells, and now they’ve got some real options. It’s a step back for now, but if they play it right, they can definitely grab a star.

When it comes to Orlando, they desperately needed better shooting, and Bane fixes that. He fits in with Suggs, Wagner, Paolo… all those guys who’ve been one good-looking shooter away from being a real threat in the East.

Final Thoughts (And Cries)

From an NBA news and NBA rumors perspective, it’s a smart trade. From a “me watching NBA games with something nice to look at” perspective? Horrible, horrible, horrible. I’ll still root for Memphis. But it’s getting harder every year. First, Kyle Anderson. Then Dillon. Then Steven Adams. Now Desmond? It’s hard out here.
