Pistons Clinch Worst Record In Franchise History

After Their Loss to the Bulls, the Pistons Got Their 67th Loss of the Season

It has been a nightmare season for the Detroit Pistons. Nothing has gone right at all. They set an NBA record with a 28-game losing streak earlier in the season and have now set another record they certainly don’t want.

With Thursday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, the Pistons made NBA news by dropping to 13-67 in NBA games this season, which is the worst record in team history. The previous record holder was the 1979-80 team that went 16-66.

The Pistons gave head coach Monty Williams a huge contract in the offseason and they may be regretting that already. This is a mess of a team and this year’s draft class is considered one of the worst so there’s no quick fix in sight.

How Are the Detroit Pistons This Bad?

The Pistons being bad isn’t a surprise. They’ve been to the playoffs twice since 2009 and were swept in the first round as the eighth seed both times. The Pistons have become one of the worst franchises in all of sports.

Their last three coaches Stan Van Gundy, Dwane Casey, and Monty Williams have all had a lot of winning seasons before but none of them could turn Detroit around. The struggles have to start with the Detroit Pistons roster, which has been a mess for over a decade.

Cade Cunningham is the only player to be excited about and the rest of the roster is filled with lackluster veterans or young players. Despite almost always having a lottery pick, the team has not been able to fill out the roster with young stars. Cunningham seems like the real deal but there’s only so much he can do on his own.

It’s going to take a lot of heavy lifting for Williams to turn this franchise around. Troy Weaver has been the general manager since 2020 but it could be time for a change. He has not done a good enough job getting talent on the roster. There could be some big changes happening in Detroit soon.
