The last time San Antonio had the first overall pick was in 1997 when it selected future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan. That choice came 10 years after the Spurs made David Robinson out of the Naval Academy the first choice in the draft.

Both players became the foundation for a Spurs run of multiple championships.
