Zion, Pelicans Still On Top of League’s Best Over Producers

Week 15 NBA Top 5 Over/Under Teams to Bet

It’s been the same story for a handful of weeks now. When it comes to topping the Over/Under NBA betting odds total, one has been better than Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Western Conference playoff hopefuls have two main things in common with two of the other teams in the Top 5: Over-producers heading further into Week 15. High-powered offense and lackluster defense.

With a full night of action on Wednesday, following Tuesday’s modest four-game slate, let’s find out which five teams are producing over outcomes against the NBA betting odds total better than everyone else.

New Orleans (30-16 O/U)

Pelicans Put Points On The Board, But Where’s the D?

Zion Williamson and the mostly young Pelicans are ranked a stellar fifth in scoring by putting up a healthy 115.3 points per game. New Orleans shoots an impressive 48.7% from the field to rank third overall in the category although the Pels shoot just 35.9% from beyond the arc (20th).

New Orleans combines its potent offense with a lackluster defense that allows a generous 114.7 points per contest to rank 25th in points allowed. The Pelicans allow their opponents to shoot 47.1% from the field (23rd) and a blistering 39.0% from three-point distance to rank 29th in the category.

Keep in mind though that the oddsmakers have clearly adjusted when it comes to New Orleans’ game day Over/Under totals. The Pelicans heading into Tuesday night having played Under the total in three straight games and five of their last six games overall. New Orleans hosts lowly Orlando on Thursday in a matchup that we likely won’t see much defense in.

Brooklyn (29-18 O/U)

Nets Offense Fuels Title Hopes, Over Outcomes

Ballyhooed Brooklyn is another team that uses a high-powered offense – and nearly non-existent defense to top its over/under totals on a consistent basis. The Nets rank first in scoring (119.1 PPG), first in field goal shooting percentage (49.5%) and fourth in three-point shooting percentage (39.2%).

Defensively, Brooklyn allows 114.9 points per game (26th) despite limiting their opponents to 46.3% shooting from the field (12th) and 36.5% from beyond the arc (13th). Again though, oddsmakers seem to have adjusted to the Nets’ high-scoring ways by increasing their O/U totals. The Nets have played Under the total in four of their last five games and six of 10 overall. Brooklyn hosts awful Houston on Wednesday night.

You could cash in by betting against the league’s worst ATS teams more often than not.

LA Clippers (28-19-1 O/U)

Wait…What?

The Clippers are not in the same category of Overproducing ball clubs as New Orleans or Brooklyn. The Clippers actually play defense.

Wait…what?

Despite their identical No. 6 rankings on both sides of the ball, Kawhi Leonard and company have been one of the top Over picks in the league all season long. LA has topped its total in two straight games and four of five overall. LA averages 115.3 points per game (6th) on 48.4% shooting from the field (7th) and 41.9% from beyond the arc (1st). The Clippers allow 108.6 points per game defensively (6th) on 46.9 percent shooting from the field (19th) and 36.3% from beyond the arc (10th). The over is 4-1 in LA’s last five home dates

Denver (28-18 O/U)

Niiiiiiikola!

I don’t know I’m suddenly reminded of those old Ricola cough drop commercials, but hey, at least Nikola rhymes with Ricola, so don’t hate. All attempts at humor aside, Denver averages 115.8 points per game (4th) on 48.8% shooting from the field (2nd) and 38.7% from beyond the arc (5th). The Nuggets allow 110.7 points per game defensively (8th) on 47.0 percent shooting from the field (21st) and 36.5% from beyond the arc (12th).

Despite ranking inside the Top 10 in fewest points allowed, Denver has consistently played over the total this season. The Nuggets have topped the total in two of its last three games and five of eight overall. Denver has put at least 121 points on the board four times over its last eight games.

Sacramento (28-18 O/U)

Kings Hit Grand Salami With Haliburton

First, let me say that Sacramento clearly hit a massive, grand slam home run by drafting 6-5 shooting guard Tyrese Haliburton with the 12th overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft. The former Iowa State star is averaging 13.2 points and 5.0 assists while shooting a scorching 48.7% from the field.

“I keep little notes all the time about what people say,” said Haliburton, the reigning Western Conference Rookie of the Month.

If you didn’t know it before, now you do. The Kings can also put points on the board with the best teams in the league. Sacramento ranks seventh in scoring (115.1 PPG) and fourth in field goal shooting percentage (48.5%). The Kings have shot it decent, but not great, from three-point distance (36.5%) to rank 15th from downtown.

The bad news for Sacramento’s playoff hopes is that they play defense like bull matadors. The Kings allow a whopping 118.5 points per game to rank 29th in points allowed. Sacramento allows its opponents to shoot a blistering 48.9% from the field (30th) and 39.1% from beyond the arc (30th). Once again, be careful when betting on Sacramento’s over/under outcomes as oddsmakers have also adjusted to this team’s high-scoring and defensively inept ways. Case in point, the under is 7-3 in Sacramento’s last 10 games.
