Weekend Wrap-Up: Another NBA All-Star Game Flops, Philly Partied Like Champs, and More

The NBA All-Star Weekend Flops, McClung Dunked Over a Car, Philly Turned It Up for Their Super Bowl Champs and More

The NBA Tried to Salvage the All-Star Game

If there’s one thing I hate is having to start the week opening a can of whoopass on somebody, but come on Adam Silver, what the hell is your problem with the NBA and its fans?

What happened to all the new ideas that flooded NBA news sites on how to fix the All-Star game?

While I’m not going to sit here and tell you I was expecting this past weekend’s All-Star Game to be a complete success, especially following the league’s hit-and-miss strategies to try and make the event at least exciting to watch, what hoops fans had to go through was just a joke from beginning to end.

From time to time, the All-Star Game felt like watching a bonafide snooze fest with as many Kevin Hart cameos as possible.

Whatever happened to the times when the All-Star game actually meant something to the league? Whatever happened to the times in which players actually showed up ready to ball out and show fans why they were there?

The new mini-tournament showed a certain level of improvement, I’ll say that much. But considering how low the bar has fallen in recent times, it’s safe to say nobody won.

Yes, You Saw Right, LeBron Did Not Play

I’ve never been one to shy away from the fact that while I recognize LeBron James’ status as the second (maybe third) best player in NBA history, he can tick me off in seconds.

Well, this weekend was no exception whatsoever.

With the league trying to find any way possible to offer the All-Star Game a much-needed lifeline, King James decided before the game that because of an ankle soreness issue, he would not be participating in the event, ending his All-Star appearances streak at 20.

Now, you’d think ‘Bron would give up his spot for somebody else to take, right? Well, low and behold, not only did James not play, but he didn’t feel like giving up his spot, thus keeping other deserving players from getting an All-Star nod (sup Norman Powell).

As NBA rumors started echoing James’ decision, all I could think of was MJ wouldn’t have done that.

But hey, it’s Monday, who really wants to jump into that debate?

Fact: Mac McClung Was the Best Part of the NBA All-Star Weekend

Now that we got the ugly out of the way, let’s talk about the one true highlight of this past weekend, Mac McClung´s performance in the Dunk Contest.

McClung, who apparently only gets a nod whenever the All-Star Weekend Dunk Contest comes around once again showed that in an event that’s sinking faster than a rock in a kid pool, if there was anybody up to the task of saving it, it’s him.

I mean, the man jumped over a car and made it look like nothing. A car!

The only question left is, when is the dunk master going to get a contract?

Philly Turned It Up to Celebrate the Eagles!

Friday was “party like you won the Super Bowl” day in Philadelphia, as fans flocked the streets of Philly to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX champion Eagles.

Not caring whatsoever about weather conditions, traffic, or anything, the Eagles and their ever-so-loyal fanbase took to partying like only they could.

With speeches from all of the team’s top players, head coach, owner, and general manager, the Eagles gave their fans exactly what they wanted, a reason to party like there was no tomorrow during work hours on Friday and bragging rights from here until Super Bowl LX.

When looking for the definition of aura, don’t be shocked if that picture shows up.

Looking for Fights With a Side of Hockey? The US & Canada Got You

What’s better than catching a fight or two in NHL games? Catching three fights in the first nine seconds of a USA vs. Canada hockey game!

In a packed Bell Center, home of the Montreal Canadiens, an initial stir-up led by the hometown crowd booing the USA National Anthem would serve as the intro for what would instantly become a violence-ridden, high-octane hockey brawl which would see the Americans score their first best vs. best win (3-1) against the Canadians since 2010.

All that’s left to say is God Bless hockey fights!

Cannonier Puts on Inspiring Show at UFC Fight Night

Staying on the fighting side of sports, if you were to look up Jared Cannonier’s UFC stats today, you’d be surprised to see that The Killa Gorilla, who came into the UFC’s Fight Night 251 event riding on a two-fight losing streak, not only took to his main event bout with a simple mission, to cut that streak, but he did it in style!

In a performance deemed as “inspiring” by fellow fighters and UFC fans in general, Cannonier, once a middleweight division title contender showed that even at 40 years old, he can still throw down and knock whoever stands in front, this time being Gregory Rodriguez.

If there was any doubt on whether Cannonier’s career was done and over with, Saturday’s win should put all those doubts to sleep, just like he did Rodriguez.

One More Lap Around the Block

The race for first place in the Spanish La Liga soccer tournament continues heating up as the weeks go by. This past weekend, Atletico de Madrid, currently riding second in the standings held the perfect chance to skip Real Madrid and take over tournament leadership. All that lay ahead was taking out #14 Celta de Vigo at home.

Simple enough, right? Well. Following a 1-1 draw, Diego Simeone’s squad saw their chances to take over slip away, thus leaving Real Madrid with an open road to take over the La Liga title race.

Come figure, with the chance to solidify its status as the tournament’s top bosses, in a result no La Liga betting odds expert could have predicted, a star-studded Real squad could not get past #9 Osasuna, tying 1-1 and leaving the point difference at one between both Madrid teams.

Now, it’s all up to Barcelona, currently third in the standings to try and seize the opportunity and tie Real Madrid atop the standings with a win over Rayo Vallecano today.

Until next week, keep it classy!
