Western Conference Snapshot: Look at the NBA Betting lines and Overall Picture of a challenging group of teams.

The Denver Nuggets have their first NBA championship. They will look to repeat and are slight in the West at +250 with over the Phoenix Suns (+300) in Vegas NBA odds.

Where the East feels tilted toward Milwaukee and Boston, the Western Conference sets up as a battle royale. Also in the championship odds mix are the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors at +650.

If you are looking for a live long shot, don’t forget the Dallas Mavericks with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Mark Cuban’s team sits at +1200.

Spurs’ Superstar Dominates Rookie Picture

There are four teams that are basically discounted and if the somehow came out of the West would be surprising. The Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs sit at +15000.

The Spurs are worth mentioning, not because they are likely to win the Western Conference, but because they have the phenom, Victor Wembanyama, and he is as compelling a rookie to come into the league possibly since LeBron James.

Wembanyama is +8000 on the BetUS odds for MVP. It would be stunning if a rookie on a team that was so poor last year had that kind of impact. However, when it comes to earning rookie honors the odds go in a different direction.

The French-born player is -1200 to make the 2023-24 All-Rookie Team. There are other players considered to have a great chance to join Wembanyama: Chet Holmgren (-850),  Scoot Henderson (-700), Brandon Miller (+270), Amen  Thompson (even) and his twin brother, Ausar Thompson (+200).

Wembanyama is -120 to win Rookie of the Year. Scoot Henderson is second choice at +250 with Chet Holmgren, who missed last season entirely due to injury, sitting at +300.

Plenty of MVP Candidates in the Western Conference

Back at the MVP award, Nioka Jokic of Denver is +450 among Western Conference contenders. Luka Docic of the Mavericks is aat +500, Kevin Durant and Stefon Curry are +1400. James is +2000 if you think he still has an MVP-level game in him.

The season opens on Oct. 24 with a great doubleheader as the Los Angeles Lakers are at the Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns meet the Golden State Warriros.
