Odds are out for the 2023 NBA title, and the Golden State Warriors are listed as favorites, priced at +500. However, the defending champions have four teams hot on their heels.
The second line of betting includes the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets, while the Boston Celtics are also well-regarded, despite most of the talk coming out of the Western Conference.
Jump on the NBA odds now, as they might well not be as generous throughout the season.
The likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown pushed the Golden State Warriors. to six difficult games. Tatum wasn’t totally healthy during the Finals.
There will be plenty of pressure on the Celtics to perform in a very competitive Eastern Conference, as the 2021 champion Milwaukee Bucks and enigmatic Brooklyn Nets figure to contend as well.
Boston also has Marcus Smart, who is the premier defender in the league. Despite not being a threat offensively, he manages to do all the little things.
“I think I proved a little bit of everything,” Smart told The Boston Globe. “I hear the talks about ‘He’s not a true point guard’ and this and that. ‘They need a star point guard.’ We’ve had star point guards, and yet this so-called non-point guard is the only one that’s led them to the Finals.
“We’ll figure everything else out. [President of basketball operations Brad Stevens] is great at what he does and he’s going to figure out the right pieces to make sure we stay going in the right direction.”
The sportsbook as the Celtics at +650 to win the NBA Championship, and we’re happy to lock in the price.
Pick: Boston Celtics (+650)
Suns Still Shining
The Phoenix Suns had a terrific season, though cratered in the playoffs. That’s marred the career of Chris Paul.
Another failed title bid aside, the 37-year-old and his skilled Suns’ team remain as contenders. (Presumably) losing DeAndre Ayton is a negative factor, but it helps with cap space to add some depth.
They still have Devin Booker and Mikal Bridges, along with some improving younger players, so the core is there to go on a run.
Bettors get +1000 for the Suns, and those odds are generous. Expect them to shorten to around +750 midway through the season.
Pick: Phoenix Suns (+1000)
Bookies Shorting Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers have been the one of the best-backed team in NBA betting markets.
Despite struggling for years, and injuries at the wrong time, the Clippers have firmed into +600. Only Golden Den State (+500) has has lower odds, LA tied with Brooklyn at that aforementioned figure,
There’s a stack of pressure on Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, both needing to show they can stay healthy for the duration.
The (likely) addition of John Wall adds some intrigue but we think the +600 odds are too skinny. Wall didn’t play last season, Houston unsuccessful at working out a trade. LA is on our list as one of the worst bets for the NBA Championship, so this is a cautionary tale.
One injury can probably derail this team, and we think they’re heading towards a fifth-place finish, then struggling in the conference finals.
Nuggets to Find Gold
A team with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and the newly-acquired (from Washington) Kentavious Caldwell-Pope demands our respect.
The Denver Nuggets might not be trending, but never too far away from getting it together. Key injuries to Murray and Porter Jr. short-circuited 2022, but if they’re healthy…
We wouldn’t be wagerin on the NBA Championship without Denver, the Nuggets priced at +1600.
Bettors should expect the odds to shorten considerably.
