Bucks Gearing Up for Title Defense

The Milwaukee Bucks are looking to defend their NBA title, and they’re looking a lot like the team that won it all a season ago. Milwaukee is coming off a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, but got forward Giannis Antetokounmpo back for that game. He’s expected to play in this one despite a lingering knee problem.

Antetokounmpo had 30 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in his return to the court after sitting out a game. The former NBA MVP is averaging 29.7 points (third in NBA), 11.6 rebounds (sixth), 5.8 assists and 1.4 blocks.

Milwaukee’s other All-Star, forward Khris Middleton, has been playing very well of late also, averaging 24.5 points and 6.3 assists while shooting 49.1 percent from 3-point range over his last eight games. He returned on Saturday after missing a pair of contests. Middleton has season averages of 20.3 points and 5.4 assists and is shooting 37.9 from beyond the arc.

Guard Jrue Holiday sat out Saturday’s loss to Memphis with left ankle soreness. He had averaged 23 points over his last five games and is expected to play in this one.

Philadelphia Pushing Pace

The playoffs are generally a time when the pace of the game can slow down as teams are more careful with the ball each possession. The Philadelphia 76ers don’t want that, coming out of a loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday that has them wanting to be more aggressive in pushing the ball up the floor for easy baskets.

“We got to find a way to get easy baskets,” center Joel Embiid said after Sunday’s loss. “We can’t walk the ball up the floor. We got to try and get into transition early, get something out of it and if we don’t have anything, pull it back out.”

Embiid is certainly effective either way, giving Philadelphia one of the best post players in the game. Embiid is a front-runner for league MVP honors with his 29.9 points (second in NBA), 11.4 rebounds (seventh), 4.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game. But rather than slowing down for his baskets, Embiid would be just as happy running in transition.

That’s where guard James Harden can come in. Harden is second in the NBA with 10.1 assists per game, and he’s averaging 22.4 points and 7.6 rebounds since coming to the 76ers in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Harden is coming off a 2-for-11 shooting performance in the loss to the Suns, but he’ll continue to look for his own offense while also feeding teammates in this one.

Bucks vs 76ers Head-to-Head

The road team has won each of the first two meetings between this season, though both have been close contests. The Philadelphia 76ers won the most recent encounter, beating the Milwaukee Bucks by three on the road in mid-February.

Philadelphia’s win this season snapped a six-game Bucks winning streak in the series. This one should come down to the wire as well, which is why the NBA lines favor the home team by so few points.

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to bounce back after taking the league-leading Phoenix Suns down to the wire on Sunday. We like Philadelphia to get the win at home, covering the small point spread as well.
