Celtics to Set Game 1 Pace vs Indiana

The Boston Celtics are the top seed in the Eastern Conference for a reason, and they’re expected to win big in Game 1 against the Pacers on Tuesday.

The latest NBA odds have the Celtics at -9½ at TD Garden, and despite a relatively easy series against the Cavaliers, they have a point to prove.

Indiana has nothing to lose, so it could provide the Celtics another Eastern Conference final shocker.

Pacers Have a Sniff

The Pacers played well against the Celtics in the regular season, so this could be a good match up for them.

They won two of the five games, and considering the Celtics lost only 18, that’s not a bad record.

However, having come through a tough series against the New York Knicks could see Game 1 go one of two ways. They can either band together following the confidence-boosting win or be tired from a physical series.

The Knicks were banged up, so that made it easier for the Pacers to win the final two games, but it was good to see Tyrese Haliburton get back to his best.

They need him to play well, otherwise, the Celtics could run all over the visitors.

We have a historic offense obviously, but this guy got things rolling and everybody kind of just followed suit,” Myles Turner said when pointing at Haliburton following their Game 7 win.

To do that on the road here in the Garden in Game 7 obviously is phenomenal, but I think this is what we’ve been doing all season long and we were able to show it on the biggest stage.

Getting +9½ is a fair start. Their best chance to cover the spread could come in the opening game, but betting against the Celtics is easier said than done.

Statement Game for Celtics

Confidence is king for the Celtics, who didn’t look overly fantastic in their series win over the Cavaliers.

However, the Celtics always play better in the big games, and we liked the way they won 113-98 in closing out the Cavaliers.

Having Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in the backcourt adds to their appeal, and playing at home is a massive advantage.

They went 37-4 during the regular season at TD Garden, so a big crowd will be confronting the visiting Cavaliers.

Covering a big spread hasn’t been easy for the Celtics, who are only 6-4 ATS in the playoffs. However, even if it’s a close contest in the fourth quarter, they have an ability to pile on the points late.

It’s what they did when winning the series against the Cavaliers, and what was a two-point game in the fourth quarter, quickly became a 15-point win.

Bettors should have confidence in the Celtics in Game 1. They want to send an early statement to the Cavaliers, who could struggle to defend the various scoring threats, including Derrick White and Al Horford.

No Luck Needed for Celtics

It’s more of a skill thing for the Celtics, as opposed to Irish luck. Therefore, we’re backing them to win and cover the spread in Game 1.

Setting the tone is important, and giving the Pacers a sniff could see their home advantage disappear.

We expect the Celtics to set the early tone and set off to a sizable first-half lead. They should kick away and put the game beyond doubt in the fourth quarter.

Back the Celtics -9½ with NBA betting markets.
