Two of the hotter teams in the NBA clash for an early game this Martin Luther King Day with the Charlotte Hornets visiting the New York Knicks. With the latest news, stats, and injury reports, the shorthanded Knicks open as slight favorites on the NBA lines. These teams are both trending but only one can keep it going.

New Year, New Knicks?
Don’t look now, but the New York Knicks are once again above .500 and back in the playoff picture in the East. The team has gone on a 5-2 run in 2022 and are doing it amidst a slew of absences to the backcourt, namely Derrick Rose and Kemba Walker.
New York got reinforcements by acquiring Cam Reddish from the Hawks, reuniting him with Duke teammate RJ Barrett. Reddish potentially becomes the best guard for the Knicks and if he plays to his potential, New York could be a force and worth betting online.

The Knicks are already seeing an improvement to their offense, which is up to 13th in rating versus just being 23rd for the season. This team still has a lot of ground to cover, but 2022 could be a positive year if it can keep this up.
Hornets Are Buzzing Lately
Speaking of a team that is having a fiery 2022, the Charlotte Hornets are flying high. Don’t be put off by their letdown against the Magic, Charlotte beat Milwaukee in consecutive games then snapped their 16-game skid against the 76ers. And yes, both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid played.
The Hornets already have the fifth-best offense in the NBA. But they used their defense to beat Milwaukee and Philadelphia, limiting both to under 100 points. In the last ten games, Charlotte has averaged the eighth-best defensive rating in the league.
Charlotte is already brimming with talent and will likely be sending LaMelo Ball and/or Miles Bridges to the All-Star game. If it can overcome its sluggish starts and lackadaisical defense, a top-five spot in the East is within reach.

Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks Prediction
Charlotte took out the Knicks as an underdog when they met earlier, but this was in their home court. The Knicks have been much better at home lately having won five straight while covering each one. The Hornets have won three of their last four road games and four of their last six as underdogs.
However, Charlotte may be in for another brutal start here. An early game coupled with Charlotte’s NBA-worst first-half defense could put them in a large hole that will be too deep to climb out of. Bet the Knicks on the sportsbook and bet them to win the first half as well.
Pick: New York Knicks -1½ (-110)
Afternoon games tend to produce low-scoring games and this one shouldn’t be any different. New York plays the slowest pace in the league and eight of their last 11 games have gone under. Hammer the under on this one.
Pick: Under 217½ (-110)
Parlay: Knicks -1½ and Under 217½ at +264
