The Dallas Mavericks are in the midst of a rough three-game losing streak, with the last loss coming to Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
They hope to finally turn things around with a bounce-back win but it won’t be easy. The Clippers are missing a star player but they have a lot more depth than Dallas.
Why the Mavericks Can Win
Dallas is in a bit of a rough situation with zero momentum heading into this contest. To make matters even worse, superstar Luka Doncic has missed the last three games after re-aggravating his leg injury. That impacts the line in the sportsbook.
The Mavericks are a significantly worse team without Doncic out on the floor but they are going to have to make do here. Jalen Brunson has assumed point guard duties in his absence, totaling 56 points, 21 rebounds and 23 assists over the last three games.
He will need some help offensively, though, which should come from Kristaps Porzingis. The big man is averaging 23.0 points over the last three contests and is even on a six-game streak of 20-plus points.
Porzingis and Brunson are great players when they are hot and they will certainly get the opportunity to find a rhythm in this one.
Why the Clippers Can Win
Even though Kawhi Leonard is still sidelined, the Clippers field a really talented team. Paul George has put this group on his back lately, averaging 26.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.9 steals.
He’s getting it done on both ends of the floor and is an MVP candidate right now. He has also gets significant help from Reggie Jackson, the point guard who is averaging 17.5 points.
Serge Ibaka is also expected to be back in the lineup again, which should give them a boost.
Los Angeles team not only has a few great scorers on the roster, but it has so much depth. Other players like Ivica Zubac, Marcus Morris, Eric Bledsoe and Terrance Mann are all major contributors who can influence a game.
We have seen these two teams battle it out on a number of occasions the last few years but this one will once again be a lot different without Doncic available.
If he ends up sitting out, the Clippers automatically pick up a huge edge. Dallas is built around Doncic and, without him, they are usually cooked – especially against the better teams.
Meanwhile, the Clippers can lean on the excellence of George and have a slew of role players who could step up at any moment.
They seem like the better all-around team here and should grab their second straight win against the Mavericks.
