NBA Finals Betting: Why Luka Doncic, Mavericks Will Cover Spread in Game 1

The Boston Celtics are sizable 6-point favorites versus the Dallas Mavericks in our NBA Finals Game 1 odds. The over-under is set at 215 points.

It is worth noting that the Celtics have not played a game since Monday, May 27. This obviously helps Boston with any injuries the team is dealing with, including the expected return of Kristaps Porzingis.

Mavericks vs Celtics Head-to-Head

Mavericks vs Celtics Odds and Spreads

  • The Celtics are 7-3 against the spread in the team’s last 10 matchups versus the Mavs.
  • The under has hit in six of these games, with the over cashing three times along with one push.
  • On average, Dallas has been outscored 106.1 to 114.2 by Boston in these last 10 games.
  • The Celtics are 75-18 straight up (SU) as a betting favorite this season.
  • The Mavericks are 59-40 ATS this season.

Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis Among Key Injuries

Dallas started getting healthy toward the end of the Western Conference Finals. Maxi Kleber and Dereck Lively II returned towards the end of the series.

Luka Doncic has been playing through a knee injury, but bettors would be wise not to overthink here. The Mavs star was lethal against the Timberwolves despite playing through the knee injury. If anything, the week of rest should help Doncic.

The Celtics are getting a big boost with the return of Porzingis. It remains to be seen how much the big man can help given he has not played since April 29.

NBA Finals Game 1 Prediction: Mavericks Cover Spread

Look for the Mavericks to be a strong threat and pull off the upset in the NBA Finals. To do so, Dallas would be wise to take advantage of a potential rusty Celtics team in Game 1.

We saw Boston needed an improbable comeback just to force overtime before finally pulling out a win in Game 1 versus Indianapolis. We could see a repeat performance against Dallas.

The main concern for the Mavs is the Celtics’ ability to rotate Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Jayson Tatum on Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Even with this reality, the Mavericks are still an enticing bet to cover the spread in Game 1.

If you want to get aggressive, the moneyline is also a solid play. Personally, I’d rather take a conservative approach and see how the first game plays out, making Dallas ATS the wiser play in our NBA odds.
