Get Out the Brooms: Celtics Set to Sweep Mavericks in NBA Finals

The Boston Celtics are one step closer to closing out the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.

Friday night’s Game 4 could see the Celtics score the sweep at American Airlines Center in Dallas, and we’re surprised by the NBA odds, which have the Celtics at +1.

Our sportsbook expects the Mavericks to save face, listing them as slight favorites, but our confidence levels are low.

What Does Dallas Have Left?

After Wednesday night’s 106-99 loss to the Celtics in Game 3, we’re questioning the Mavericks’ mindset entering Game 4.

They came out of the gates firing and opened a 13-point first-quarter lead, but it quickly evaporated and they were particularly poor defensively.

Superstar guard Luka Doncic made a number of bad defensive reads before picking up his sixth foul late in the fourth during a Mavericks’ late comeback.

It’s the third consecutive game of the NBA Finals where the Mavs have failed to score 100 points. That’s the big concern, and it’s the usual problem of the supporting players not doing enough for Dallas.

Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 62 points in Game 3, there is too much dribbling. It’s the opposite of what the Celtics have done and it’s not paying off for Dallas.

Being the -1 favorites for Game 4 is surprising. We don’t see any area where the Mavericks are better than Boston and NBA betting markets could have the line way off.

Dallas is bidding to become the only team to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the postseasons. Teams that hold a 3-0 lead in the NBA playoffs are 156-0 all time.

We just got to make history,” Mavs rookie center Dereck Lively II said. “We got to go out there and we just got to play like our lives on the line.

We like the rookie’s attitude, but picking yourself off the floor is easier said than done, and the Mavericks could find that out on Friday.

Tatum, Brown Have Celtics in Control

From the outset of the NBA season, it was clear who was the best team in the league.

The Celtics have been the best team throughout the season and they’re showing why during the NBA Finals.

It has been a clinic in team ball, and that was no more evident than in Game 3. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 61 points and it didn’t even feel like they were dominating.

They made shots when they had to and they defended better than the Mavericks – and it wasn’t even close except for the final minutes.

Not really trying to look too much into it,” Tatum said. “The game of basketball is about runs. It’s never going to go like you expected. If you want to be a champion, you have to be resilient in those situations, and we did that tonight.

There were some troubling signs in the fourth for the Celtics, letting their big lead slip away, but class got them over the line and bettors should fancy their chances of securing the sweep.

We priced the Celtics around -4 to win the NBA Finals in Dallas, so the +1 line is too good to pass up.

The Celtics are clearly the better team, and we see no reason why they would want to lose a game just so they can go back to TD Garden to win the championship in front of their home fans.

Winning 4-0 would send a message to every NBA team that the Celtics are here to stay. The Eastern Conference power has taken over and the Mavericks aren’t good enough to keep up.

Slamming the Celtics at the Sportsbook

Lock in the Celtics +1 before the smart money comes for the visitors.

They have held the Mavericks to under 100 points in every NBA Finals game so far, and that level of defense is too tough to beat.

It always looked like a one-sided finals series as the Mavericks don’t have a bench to keep up with the relentless nature of the Celtics. We have little doubt that money will come for the Celtics, so secure the line and take the value.

It’s also likely to be a low-scoring affair, with the Mavericks picked to score under 100 for the fourth consecutive time.

Take Celtics +1 (-110) and Mavericks team total under.
