Memphis Grizzlies at Philadelphia 76ers

Morant Monstering Opposition

We thought Morant should have been the top overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and he’s showing us why.

The Memphis Grizzlies playmaker, who went No. 2, is having an incredible season with 26.1 points and 6.8 assists per game. He has matured into one of the best point guards in the league and he’s sparking the Southwest Division leaders.

The Grizzlies are 35-17 following three consecutive wins over San Antonio, Utah and Washington. Not only are they winning games, but they’re also covering the sportsbook spreads.

The 119-109 win over Utah was classy and it holds them in good stead against Eastern Conference sides.

Memphis is 34-18 against the spread, so bettors have cashed in and they get another favorable line against the 76ers.

Having Memphis at +3½ is a fair line considering its form, and if Morant continues on his tear, the 76ers could be in for a long night.

Morant comes off a 34-point performance against Washington and teammate Desmond Bane believes they’re a much better team than when they previously faced the Wizards.

“We’re a much different team now than what we were back then,” Bane told ESPN. “We were kind of trying to find our identity, and they smacked us pretty good at their place.”

The Morant, Bane and Steven Adams combination is working perfectly, and with a 16-8 record on the road, bettors shouldn’t have any fears about playing away from home.

76ers Offense Picking Up

The Philadelphia 76ers are quietly going about their business now that it’s clear Ben Simmons won’t be playing.

They have recorded four straight wins over the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs. The last three wins have come at home, where they have improved to 13-10 after a rough start.

Embiid continues to dominate with 29.1 points per gae. He also leads the 76ers in rebounding with 10.8 per game, so he’s a one-man wrecking crew.

Betting online markets have factored this into their -3½ line, which is a little too high. We think the 76ers are playing well, but they have a sizable deficit to overcome if the first meeting is anything to go by.

Memphis hosted Philadelphia in December and the 126-91 result wasn’t a good look for the 76ers. They weren’t at full strength, but it couldn’t have come easier for the Grizzlies, so that’s a concern for the home team backers.

The key is whether Embiid can dominate in the paint. If he gets easy looks, the Grizzlies, who rank 14th in points allowed, could struggle to keep him under 30 points.

However, if Embiid is double-teamed, it will be up to Tobias Harris, Seth Curry and Tyrese Maxey to knock down open shots.

The 76ers are 24-24-1 ATS and they have covered in only one of their last three wins.

Memphis to Extend Streak

We are fans of the Memphis Grizzlies and we think bettors are getting value odds in this situation.

Not only are they playing fantastic basketball, but they have a superstar in Morant.

Playing on the road has been no problem and we think they have more firepower than the 76ers, so take the +3½ points.

Pick: Memphis Grizzlies +3½
