The Charlotte Hornets will be traveling to Atlanta to face off with the Hawks in the play-in tournament. The loser of Wednesday’s matchup will see their season come to an end. The winner gets to face the Cleveland Cavaliers, the loser of the other Eastern Conference play-in game.
Charlotte ended the regular season on a three-game winning streak. The Hornets are a young team that’s thrilled to be in the playoffs and any further success would be gravy.
The Hawks are a team that journeyed deep in the playoffs last season but didn’t repeat success this regular season. They did win seven out of their last nine games, though. Can they rediscover last year’s playoff magic?

Hornets Must Be Careful Inside
Charlotte has a lot of flashy scoring options. LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier and Miles Bridges are just a handful of the talented scorers that lead one of the league’s most electric units.
However, their defense could be a concern in this contest.Atlanta’s Trae Young and Clint Capela give opposing teams nightmares in the pick-and-roll game.
The Hornets don’t really have a lot of rim protection outside of Mason Plumlee, who isn’t among the most athletic players in the game today. They allow the sixth-most points per game and the most of any team in the playoffs, so that has to be a concern.
Plumlee is likely to be sought out a lot defensively, if he isn’t able to hold his own against Capela, it could be a very rough day for this team.
Hawks Missing Key Players
There is a chance that Atlanta is missing two very key players for this game. Lou Williams is questionable after missing the team’s most recent game and John Collins is likely out, so keep an eye on the injury news if you bet online.
Williams hasn’t been great on the stat sheet but is always somebody you can count on to go get a bucket. Collins is a much bigger blow, though. He is the team’s second-leading scorer with 16.2 points per outing.
Without Collins, the Hawks are going to have to get creative in their matchup for Bridges, a very athletic and explosive wing that has caused mayhem for opposing teams.
Collins could have squared him up perfectly but they have to look towards Danilo Gallinari and DeAndre Hunter, both of whom have underperformed this season.
