The players who stepped up were Naji Marshall and P.J. Washington. Marshall had an incredible game off the bench, with 26 points, while Washington scored 22 and added 13 rebounds. That play continued in the overtime loss to the Heat, with Irving having a bigger game with 27 points, but Marshall and Washington combined for 41. Klay Thompson was also solid, scoring 15 points, while Dereck Lively II had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.
