This game showcases what many experts expected to be last season’s Western Conference Finals matchup, but that never happened. The Los Angeles Clippers inexplicably blew a 3-1 lead on the Denver Nuggets in the Semifinals, and were prematurely bounced from The Bubble. Kawhi Leonard didn’t get a playoff crack at LeBron James in his Clips uniform.

These teams are pretty evenly matched, although the Lakers are undefeated in the preseason (two wins came vs the Clippers.). Los Angeles will be defending its most recent championship title for the first time against its cross-town rivals. The Lakers are favored by three points, and they should win by much more than that.

L.A. doubled-down following its championship run, trading Rajon Rondo, but acquiring Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol, Wesley Matthews, and Montrezl Harrell. Fresh blood coursing through hungry players’ veins, and a fierce squad fighting for a repeat. Harrell gets to show the Clippers exactly what they lost by letting him go in the offseason.

After getting eliminated by the Nuggets last season, Los Angeles replaced head coach Doc Rivers with Ty Lue. The Clippers re-signed Paul George and Marcus Morris, and brought in Serge Ibaka and Luke Kennard, but let Harrell walk. The Clips will still be competitive, but did not keep pace with the Lakers evolution.
