Knicks Galvanized by Toughness

The Knicks are showing true grit throughout the playoffs, and it could be enough to see them win Game 5 in Indiana.

They didn’t play well when losing 111-106 and 121-89 earlier this series at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, so they will need to turn those performances around. However, Jalen Brunson is a one-man wrecking crew.

Brunson is playing at an elite level, and he’s also playing big minutes. He barely gets any rest, but because of the Knicks growing injury list, they need him on the floor at all times.

He not only makes countless shots, he sets up his teammates. Getting the likes of Josh Hart and Alec Burks to score more than 10 points is a credit to his excellent point guard play.

Brunson comes off a 44-point performance and can score whenever he wants. If the Knicks are going to cover the +5½ spread in Game 6, Brunson needs to be at his best.

There is no doubting that the Knicks are the tougher team. They play with heart and they leave it on the court. However, winning on the road hasn’t been easy.

That’s the big concern, and eventually, their lack of depth could catch up to them. Our sportsbook believes it will catch up to them in Game 6, and it’s hard to disagree.

Home Cooking for Pacers

It’s hard to consistently bet on the Pacers. They go missing at times during the game, and they let good leads dwindle.

However, they have been impressive at home, and that’s the overriding positive factor in their favor.

We need to see more from Tyrese Haliburton, who has been playing like a deer in headlights. He has mostly been nonexistent throughout the series, but the Pacers need him to play with confidence.

Playing in front of home fans should be enough to get him going, so we’re happy to give him another chance.

Game 5 wasn’t a good look for the Pacers. They led early before getting blown off the court, which can’t happen at this stage of the playoffs.

“We got annihilated on loose balls, rebounds. Gave up 20 offensive rebounds and 29 more shots. So, we all own it,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. “But very embarrassing. Very embarrassing and a hard lesson.”

If they have any pride, they should want to rebound in a big way. Covering a -5½ spread isn’t beyond the Pacers, who won by 32 points in their most recent home meeting against the Knicks.

That bodes well, and money could come for the Pacers on game day.

Sticking with the Status Quo

Home teams have dominated the series so far, so we’re taking the Pacers -5½.

We’re going to overlook the Pacers recent efforts at Madison Square Garden, and instead look at their wins at home.

They were mightily impressive in going 2-0 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and they have enough depth to handle the Knicks.

Despite New York destroying them on Tuesday, a lot can change with geography. That’s likely to be the case on Friday, so bet on Indiana -5½ as our NBA bet of the day.
