The New Orleans Pelicans head North to the United Center on Saturday night to take on a slumping Chicago Bulls team. As has become customary, hopes were high for the Bulls during the offseason, with Demar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic leading the charge.
Cut to 20 games in, and the Bulls have six wins while LaVine is out, DeRozan is playing hurt, and Vucevic is left trying to carry too much weight. The Pelicans aren’t exactly a powerhouse, but they won’t have to be.
Bulls’ Poor Perimeter Shooting
The Bulls have a lot going against them, in general, with how their roster is constructed. One major red flag, which will come into play, is Chicago’s inability to get anything going from behind the arc.
With a 3-point shooting percentage of 34.9%, Chicago ranks 24th in the NBA. The Bulls’ lack of deep threats leaves them with one of the worst shooting efficiency numbers in the league at 1.077, or fourth-worst.
Chicago’s problems downtown are only being exacerbated with LaVine, arguably their best 3-point shooter, out for at least another week with a foot injury.

On the other side of this coin are the Pelicans, who boast the best opponent 3-point shooting percentage in the NBA at 33%. You see where I am going with this.
We have one team that can’t shoot the long ball, going up against a team that defends the perimeter better than anyone else. Factor in the Bulls’ injuries and losing record at home, and Chicago is a team to avoid with your bet online.
I don’t have many complex rules when making NBA bets, but one is not to wager on teams who can’t score effectively. It’s simple yet effective, and I’m sticking with it here. Take the Pelicans and the modest spread, and watch the Bulls struggle to keep pace without one, potentially two, of their best shooters.
