Serious Firepower Showcased Between Pelicans and Nets
High-powered offenses meet when the Brooklyn Nets play host to the New Orleans Pelicans. For obvious reasons, the NBA odds favor Brooklyn. However, going by the latest news, stats, and injury reports, it’s tough to lay the juice on an underperforming team on the sports betting lines even if this will be a fun matchup.
New Orleans Pelicans (16-26) vs Brooklyn Nets (26-15)
Net Negative
If you’ve been betting online on Brooklyn’s point spread as a home team, you’ll be down a big hole. The Nets are only 4-17-1 against the spread, which is the worst record among home teams in the NBA. On the moneyline, it doesn’t get any better as Brooklyn is 11-11.
Brooklyn has dropped home games to a various group of teams from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Milwaukee Bucks. In fact, Brooklyn has just one win at home in its last seven tries and it came in overtime against the San Antonio Spurs.
What’s going on? The Nets’ offense has dropped to 25th when it’s usually a top-10 unit. The defense is not any better. James Harden has been terribly inefficient with his 38.8% shooting and his 4.7 turnovers. Compounded by injuries, Brooklyn is vulnerable.
Pelicans Flying High
The play-ins are close! The season appeared to be over before a quarter of the season was even played for New Orleans. But thanks to Portland’s downfall and a mini-resurgence, New Orleans has won three of its last four games, the Pelicans are within striking range.
Brandon Ingram has been on a tear for the Pelicans, who went 7-5 in December and is 10-9 since the start of the month. Ingram has put up 24.4 points on 46.8% shooting in this span. The former All-Star improves the team’s play by 9.3 points when he’s on the court.
The Pelicans are slowly improving on both ends making them an intriguing option, especially as an underdog against inconsistent favorites.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Brooklyn Nets Prediction
Yes, the Nets are vulnerable and the Pelicans are getting it together. But with a close game, we’re still siding with Kevin Durant and the Nets even with all their injuries. The Nets have been hard to trust at home but New Orleans is still only 4-13 as a road underdog.
The happy medium is to take the Pelicans at 6 points. This provides enough leeway for when they lose a hard-fought game.
Pick: New Orleans Pelicans +6 (-110)
Alternatively, pass from picking a side and bet the total to go over. Twelve of the Pelicans’ 21 road games have gone under as well as 13 of Brooklyn’s 22 home games. But Brooklyn’s last few games have seen offensive explosions. At least one team has scored over 120 points in five of Brooklyn’s last six games.
Pick: Over 230 (-110)
Parlay: Pelicans +6 and Over 230 at +264
