Clippers Will Even Conference Finals

Apparently the Los Angeles Clippers like playing from behind. Down 2-0 heading into Thursday’s Western Conference Finals matchup against the Phoenix Suns, LA recorded a huge, 106-92 win as predicted, though the final score didn’t top the 218.5-point total.

Now, Paul George and the Clippers are looking to tie their showdown against Chris Paul and the Suns at two games apiece when the two square off at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Despite their big win in Game 3, the Clips are a surprisingly value-packed Pick ‘Em selection at home in Game 4. The NBA betting odds for this affair are live in the BetUS online sportsbook right now.

Let’s find out where that value lies right now.

Booker Needs to Break Out

Phoenix shooting guard Devin Booker was simply outstanding by recording the first triple-double of his career in Game 1. Since then, the All-Star has largely struggled with Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue assigned veteran guard Patrick Beverley to defend him.

Booker scored 20 points in Game 2 but shot 5-for-16 from the field to get there. In Game 3, Booker was held to 15 points on 5-of-21 from the field. Heading into Game 4, the Suns need Booker to get back to playing as he did before breaking his nose in a collision with Beverley in Game 3. The still-blossoming star refused to blame is team’s loss on the injury.

“The nose feels fine,” Booker said. “We just lost the game.”

Booker praised the defensive-minded Beverley in the process.

“He’s ultra aggressive,” Booker said of Beverley. “He’s denying, limiting touches. He has one objective out there, and we understand that. So I feel like other things should open up, and we have to look at the film and see what’s open and see what we can get.”

Chris Paul struggled in his return after missing the first two games because of COVID-19 protocols. CP3 added 15 points but shot 5-of-19 from the field in the loss.

Beverley’s Big Play, Playoff P in The House

Los Angeles should have won Game 2, but the Clippers left no doubt by taking Game 3. All-star Paul George went for 27 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists. Los Angeles has been led by the defensive play of backup point guard Beverley and starting floor general Reggie Jackson as much as anyone.

Beverley scored a modest eight points, but he’s put Devin Booker on lockdown defensively the last two games. The league’s most pesky irritant has also been a vocal source of leadership for Los Angeles.

“Let’s keep our foot on the gas!” Beverley said to his teammates at halftime of Game 3. Beverly has played a pivotal role after rarely seeing the floor against Denver in the last round. To his credit, he’s clearly stayed ready and focused.

Reggie Jackson scored 23 points and made some huge shots in the fourth quarter.

“Pat Bev was energized,” Jackson said. “Fired up about us not letting go, not letting our foot off the gas and figuring out how to be better.”

Prediction

I have full confidence that Los Angeles is going to win Game 4 to cash in as an outright moneyline pick. In addition to that, I’m going to go with the Under 220 total points.

The Under is 4-1 in the Suns’ last five games following an ATS loss and 9-4-1 in the Clippers’ last 14 home games. The Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these Pacific Division rivals and 7-2 in the last nine meetings when they play in Los Angeles.

I’m expecting Paul to control the tempo to keep LA from running away, but in the end, I like the Clippers to win while the game’s total finishes right around the 198 points scored in Game 3.

Pick: Under 220  Total Points
