San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks Game Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions
Hawks Banking on Home Edge
The San Antonio Spurs are catching a ton of points on the NBA odds board for Friday’s bout with the Atlanta Hawks. Both the Spurs and Hawks have had their fair share of struggles, but the hosts more so than the visitors appear to be on the right track now.
So, can the Spurs make some noise at the State Farm Arena and, in turn, defy the betting online markets? Or will Trae Young and John Collins extend their hot form and deliver a win for the Hawks in front of their fans?

Spurs Spiraling
The season has been a right slog for the San Antonio Spurs as they are outsiders in the Western Conference playoff picture. The Spurs boast a subpar 20-35 mark that has them a whopping 25 games off the pace and sitting 13th in the conference standings and fourth in the Southwest Division.
Recent form is nothing to write home about after opening an eight-game road stretch with a 105-92 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The defeat marked the fourth defeat in the last five games and the seventh in the last 10. The Spurs closed as the six-point road underdogs but didn’t even come close to the market cover as they slipped to a 28-27-0 record against the spread (ATS).
Statistically, the Spurs are ninth overall with 111.1 points scored per game and 11th overall with a 46.4 field goal percentage. However, defensively, the Spurs come up short. They’re 23rd overall with 111.4 points allowed and opponents are shooting 46.4 percent overall – effectively undoing all the good they do on the offensive side of the ball.
Hawks Surging
The Atlanta Hawks haven’t lived up to the lofty expectations that they’d set following their impressive playoff run last season. Going into the 2021-22 NBA season, the Hawks were among the top 10 contenders at the sportsbook exchange to win the NBA championship. But with the season entering the second half, Atlanta is found wanting.
As things currently stand, the Hawks are just inside the play-in frame with a 26-28 record. They’re nine games back of the current Eastern Conference leaders, the Miami Heat. As well, they’re third overall in the Southeast Division.
In their last appearance, the Hawks snapped a two-game losing streak by beating the Indiana Pacers 133-112. In so doing, the Hawks covered for NBA free picks as the closing 12½-point favorites quite comfortably and improved to a 24-30-0 ATS record.
In the last 10 games, the Hawks have seen their form improve to a 7-3 record. Trae Young put up 34 points on 13-of-20 shooting with six 3-pointers in Tuesday’s 133-112 win over the short-handed Pacers. Collins added 20 points, 13 of which he put up in the first quarter.

San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks Head-to-Head
The Spurs and Hawks are tied 5-5 in their last 10 meetings but the Hawks have the 6-4 ATS edge. The total is split 5-5 on the over/under in those last 10. Atlanta won the first meeting over San Antonio this season, beating the Spurs 124-106. Young had 31 points and 11 assists.
San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks Prediction
The Atlanta Hawks may be a long way off preseason expectations, but they’re decidedly in better form than their upcoming visitors to State Farm Arena. The Hawks are 7-3 SU and ATS in their last 10 games.
So, it’s really no surprise that the Hawks are laying eight points to the Spurs as per the BetUS sportsbook. The Spurs are spiraling out of control and they’re in no shape to stop the tandem of Young and Collins, who have been in top form of late. Lay the points with the hosts as the firm favorites for NBA picks.
