Kings Look to Keep Slim Playoff Hopes Alive

Spurs Lead Sacramento by 2½ games

The Sacramento Kings will look to increase their slim chances of reaching the playoffs when they play host to the San Antonio Spurs at the Golden 1 Center on Friday night.

Sacramento (29-37) is in 12th place in the Western Conference standings, 2½ games behind the 10th-place Spurs (31-34). The Kings have been on a nice roll recently but are listed as home underdogs against San Antonio in this matchup. The NBA Odds for this matchup are live in the BetUS Online Sportsbook right now.

Spurs Struggling Mightily

The Spurs are in a fight to finish inside the play-in tournament, but have hit the skids at the worst time possible. San Antonio has dropped five straight, including an embarrassing 126-94 road loss against Utah on Wednesday.

Luka Samanic scored a team-high 15 points while Devin Vassell and Drew Eubanks each had 14 for the Spurs. Now, San Antonio will look to steady a ship gone far off course the last two weeks as they fight for the final spot in the NBA play-in tournament.

“You go through adversity sometimes,” DeMar DeRozan said. “You can’t let it diminish your confidence. We still got six games left. Still six opportunities for us to be able to put ourselves in a position to keep playing,”

The Spurs are 4-0 against the spread in their last four games against a team with a losing straight-up record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a road favorite, but they’ll be facing a Sacramento club on Friday night that is playing well right now.

Kings Recent Play Encouraging

The Kings are playing some of their best basketball of the season at just the right time. Sacramento has won four straight and five of its last six, including a 104-93 road win over Indiana on Wednesday as a six-point underdog. Marvin Bagley III, the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2018, scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Kings to the huge win.

“This is two of the last three games where he’s put up big-time performances,” coach Luke Walton said. “I was happy for him, happy for his teammates. But that’s part of the fun of the sport. He was really good tonight.”

Delon Wright added 23 points and Buddy Hield chipped in with 16 points. The Kings average 114.0 points to rank 11th in scoring. Defensively, Sacramento allows 118.1 points per contest (28th). The Kings are 14-18 at home.

Desperate Kings Look Daunting

San Antonio is struggling at the most inopportune time while Sacramento is on a nice roll coming into this matchup. The Spurs have failed to cover the spread in two straight while going 2-2-1 ATS over their last five.

Sacramento is 3-1 ATS over its last four games and 5-2 ATS over its last seven. More importantly, the Kings have split two regular-season road dates against the Spurs. Sacramento recorded a 132-115 win in the Alamo City on March 29 as a 2½-point favorite before falling 120-106 two days later as a 2½-point underdog.

The Kings have also split the last 10 meetings against San Antonio while going a blistering 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings. The Spurs have lost 10 of their last 14 games against their Western Conference counterparts and have gone 2-4 ATS in their last six games against teams from the Pacific Division.

Sacramento is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against teams from the Southwest Division and an identical 5-2 ATS in their last seven games played on a Friday. San Antonio has been held under the century mark in two straight games and the Kings have held their last three opponents under 100 points.

Sacramento is firing on all cylinders right now and San Antonio is playing like a sputtering compact with a couple of bad spark plugs. I’m going with the Kings to take care of business at the Golden 1 Center on Friday night.

Bet This Pick: Sacramento Kings +5
