Sun off to Hollywood for pair
The two teams recently completed a trade that sent former No. 1 overall pick Chiney Ogwumike from the Connecticut Sun to the Los Angeles Sparks to play alongside her sister, Nneka. Meanwhile, the Sun and Sparks are in totally different spots. Connecticut will again be a factor in the postseason, while LA has its work cut out just to reach the playoffs.
Connecticut is one of three WNBA teams with at least 10 road wins, while Los Angeles can get back .500 mark at home with a Tuesday over the Sun. They will also play in LA Thursday night, the Sparks wrapping the regular season at home Sunday against Dallas.
Los Angeles is one of five teams fighting for one of the last two WNBA playoff spots, with those teams separated by just one game.
Connecticut (+450) is tied as third choice to win the WNBA championship, according to the WNBA odds. LA (+50000) has the worst odds among the 11 teams remaining in contention.
Connecticut’s Jonquel Jones (+1200) is fourth in the odds to win the WNBA’s Most Valuable Player award, while Nneka Ogwumike is tied for 13th (+6600).
Sims latest Connecticut recruit
In a perfect world, veteran point guard Jasmine Thomas would be leading the Sun, as she has for the last few years. However, a torn ACL has sidelined Thomas since May. Connecticut has brought in different players in an attempt to provide another scoring threat off the bench.
Jazmine Jones played in seven games, Bria Hartley was in her third game with the Sun, but she also suffered a season-ending knee injury. Now, it’s Odyssey Sims who’s been brought in by Connecticut.
Sims had a 13-point effort (18 minutes) in Connecticut’s last game. With the Sun the fifth franchise Sims has played, there’s no lack of options as far as homecoming. Sims played for Los Angeles during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, starting 38 contests during that time.
Something to consider for those who bet online is Connecticut is 6-1-1 against the spread over the last eight.
Sykes is sparking the Sparks
When second-leading scorer Liz Cambage ended her lone season with the Sparks, it forced other players into more significant roles to offer offensive support for leading scorer Nneka Ogwumike.
Brittney Sykes has been the player attempting to lessen the burden on Ogwumike. She is averaging 16.3 points over six games since Cambage’s run with the Sparks ended abruptly.
The player who saw her time greatly increase was rookie Olivia Nelson-Ododa. She went from averaging 9.5 minutes to being on the court for 21.8 minutes per contest. Nelson-Ododa’s production has risen from 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds a game (witb Cambage on roster) to 6.8 points and five rebounds (without Cambage).
Los Angeles has covered against the Las Vegas odds in just four of its last dozen. The Sparks are just 1-5 against the spread at home in their last six.

Sun vs Sparks Prediction
Veteran guard Kristi Toliver has already been ruled out of the game for Los Angeles (calf), while Chiney Ogwumike is questionable as she works her way back after a recent collision on-court.
Connecticut has covered in nine of the last 10 meetings with LA, including each of the last four road games. Keeping the Sun off the offensive glass kis one of the priorities for the Sparks.

In the first meeting between the teams, Connecticut had a 24-point lead at halftime, playing without starters DeWanna Bonner and Courtney Williams. Alyssa Thomas led the way with 23 points. Ogwumike and Jordin Canada had 12 points each for Los Angeles.
Connecticut is coming into the game as an eight-point favorite. However, that number seems high, especially against an LA team playing to keep its postseason hopes alive Tuesday night. The 159-point total is the lowest of the three games on the Tuesday slate.
