The Sacramento Kings have not been lighting the beam like some NBA predictions might have expected after they added DeMar DeRozan this offseason. Part of that has been injuries and getting used to the new players on the court. They will host the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are also dealing with a new addition to the lineup.

Isaiah Hartenstein made his first appearance in the Thunder’s last game after signing this offseason. He came off the bench and played well, helping the Thunder beat the Portland Trail Blazers 109-99.

On the other hand, the Kings are coming off a back-to-back, which they do get to play at home, which could affect the online betting odds. However, they lost the opening game 108-103 to the Brooklyn Nets and now have a three-game losing streak.

Thunder vs Kings Betting Preview

1. Improving Health Boosts Odds for OKC

There was no doubt this season that the Oklahoma City Thunder would be one of the top teams in the Western Conference. They were tied for the best record in the West last season and were the No.1 seed. They made two big offseason moves: trading for Alex Caruso, who is a perfect fit, and signing free agent Hartenstein.

So far in 2024-25, the Thunder are pushing for the No.1 seed in the West again, but there have been a few more speed bumps. Hartenstein was injured before the season and then Chet Holmgren headlined NBA news, hurting his hip. Even before Holmgren’s injury, the Thunder had a concerning lack of front-court depth, especially regarding the center position.

That led to 6-foot-6-inch Jalen Williams starting at center. However, Williams somehow made it work within the Thunder’s small lineup, and even when Hartenstein made his debut, it was off the bench. Hartenstein played 29 minutes and had 13 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks against the Trail Blazers.

Now that the Thunder have a legitimate starting center again, it is hard to argue against them as one of the best teams in the league. Williams has looked like an All-Star, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is trying to make a run at the MVP again. That makes it hard not to back them for NBA picks, especially against a Kings team that has lost three straight.

2. Take Under in Low-Scoring Game

When looking at these two teams, the immediate thought is that they should lead to a high-scoring matchup. Two of the best young guards now getting close to their prime, Gilgeous-Alexander and De’Aaron Fox, will be on court. Plus, both teams have many offensive options outside of those two players.

However, there is a good chance this game will hit the under. A significant factor in that is the Thunder’s defense. Per Thunder vs Kings betting trends, OKC has allowed the second-fewest points per game this season (103.6) and has the best defensive rating (103.1) in the NBA.

That is a hard challenge for any offense, especially one that is ironing out the kinks of adding a new player and is without its best bench scorer inMalik Monk.

Furthermore, the Kings’ defense has been solid this season, holding its own. They allow 113.1 points per game with a defensive rating ranked 13th (112.4). In fact, throughout this losing streak, the Kings’ defense has been great, allowing less than 110 points in the previous three games.

No one is saying the Sacramento Kings have an elite defense, but it has been good recently. The offense has been unable to keep up, which leans NBA over/under predictions toward the under. While the Thunder’s offense has been solid, averaging 114.2 points and ranking 13th, it is also dealing with a change due to the addition of Hartenstein.

Questions Of The Day

Who is going to lead this game in scoring?

The guards in this game are the engines of their offenses, so expect Gilgeous-Alexander or Fox to lead their teams in scoring.

Is there a player prop to pay attention to?

Hartenstein had a big first game for the Thunder. He could try to repeat that but explicitly om the glass.
