Thursday NBA Player Props: Double Up on Celtics 03/28/2024

We split our NBA predictions on Wednesday night, and Thursday provides a mini two-game slate. With MLB Opening Day today, the Association is taking a backseat. That doesn’t mean there isn’t prop bet value. I’m looking to cash in on these NBA expert picks. Before I get into that, here’s what you might have missed after the NBA provided another entertaining night on Wednesday.

Wednesday NBA Recap

The New York Knicks defeated the Raptors 145-101 and posted the highest offensive rating (156.7) in the NBA this season. The Warriors defeated the Magic and overcame Draymond Green’s early ejection four minutes into the game.

The Lakers stayed hot and defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 136-124 behind a triple-double from LeBron James. A special moment went down when James, the oldest player in the NBA (39), posted up GG Jackson, the youngest player in the NBA (19).

The Western Conference standings continue to shake up every night. The Phoenix Suns defeated the Denver Nuggets for the second time this month, handing Denver just its seventh loss at home this season. The Rockets beat the Thunder in overtime to secure their 10th consecutive win and keep the pressure on the Warriors.

On Thursday, the Celtics are on the road against the Hawks, looking to avenge an embarrassing loss on Monday, and the Bucks travel to take on the Pelicans.

Despite the two-game schedule, these games are worth watching. We have plenty of player props to select from for Thursday night. There are still NBA betting lines to sift through, but I’ve done the research, so you don’t have to. Let’s get to the best NBA bets for tonight.

Best NBA Player Props Today

1. NBA Prop Pick: Celtics PG Derrick White Over 13½ Points (-139)

The Celtics are massive 16-point road favorites tonight in Atlanta. They are the only way I could look if I were selecting an NBA pick against the spread. Boston lost to the Hawks 120-118 after squandering an early 30-point lead on Monday. Boston was in a funky spot in that game. Listed as questionable for Boston is Jrue Holiday, who has missed five straight games. The door is open for Derrick White to do damage.

White sat in Monday’s loss but he is probable today. He has scored 16, 18 and 15 points in three matchups against Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray. He is over this line in nine of 10 games without Holiday this season, including a 15-point game against the Hawks in November. He is averaging 15.4 points overall and 18.2 without Holiday. He’s over this line in three of his last four against Atlanta and four straight. The Hawks own the fifth-worst defensive rating in the NBA, so we can trust White.

2. NBA Prop Pick: Celtics PF Kristaps Porzingis Over 18½ Points (-110)

Much like our wager on White, I can only trust the Celtics side to get the job done. The Hawks have been playing well lately, but they are on the second night of a back-to-back, and Boston should come into this game pissed off. Kristaps Porzingis let down all his backers in Monday’s loss after scoring 15 points in the first half and finishing the game with just 17, failing to cash his points prop betting line. I’m expecting a bounce-back performance tonight.

The Hawks remain without Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu is questionable. Clint Capela played 27 minutes in the Hawks’ win over the Trail Blazers on Wednesday, so Porzingis should be able to capitalize with his fresh legs. He has exceeded this line in 62% of games this season, including seven of his last nine. There’s plenty of blowout potential, but he has gone over this line in 63% of Boston’s wins by 15 or more points where he played at least 20 minutes. This is an excellent buy-low spot for the Unicorn.

3. NBA Prop Pick: Bucks SF Khris Middleton Over 1½ Made Threes (-145)

I considered fading Zion Williamson here, but I can’t stomach an under, so we’re sipping some juice with Kris Middleton threes tonight. The Pelicans are giving up the second most 3-point attempts per game in the NBA (38.8). As a result, they allow the sixth-most threes per game (14.1). The Pelicans defense will focus on slowing down and doubling Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, which opens the door for Middleton out on the wing.

Middleton is over this line in 10 of 13 road games where he has played at least 28 minutes. That number is nine of his last 11 overall. The 1-point spread suggests a close game, and Middleton should be on the floor for at least 28 minutes. Without Brandon Ingram in the last two games, we’ve seen the likes of similar positions: Jalen Williams (3), Josh Giddey (5), Isaiah Joe (2) and Buddy Boeheim (3) all splash at least two threes.
