The star-studded Los Angeles Lakers look to start to live up to the hype when they open their playoff season against the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night. The opening game of this first-round playoff series should be exciting, with All-Stars like Anthony Edwards, Luka Doncic and LeBron James looking to come out swinging to get away with a win.

Los Angeles is a popular NBA Finals bet, but it has to prove itself on the court, starting with a series against a Timberwolves team that is coming off an appearance in the Western Conference finals.

As we’ve talked about, these teams have some shooting stars that can fill up the scorebook with their point production. Even players like Julius Randle for Minnesota and Austin Reeves for the Lakers are capable of scoring 20-plus points, and we think this first game is going to feature a lot of scoring.

Both teams are going to have the adrenaline pumping and will be looking to make big plays to open the postseason. We like both teams to put up some solid scoring numbers and make the over one of our top NBA predictions today.

Leg 3: Lakers F LeBron James Over 7.5 Rebounds (-122)

Los Angeles is going to need to make a concerted effort to hit the boards against the likes of Minnesota big men Rudy Gobert (10.9 rebounds per game) and Randle (7.1). That means 40-year-old James is going to need to get scrappy on the glass.

James averaged 7.8 rebounds per game this season, but he can go to the boards a bit more now that Doncic is handling the ball more offensively since coming to the team. LeBron focuses on the glass in this one, making him the best of the NBA player prop picks for this game.

Leg 4: Both Teams To Score 100+ Points: Yes (-182)

We’ve already said that both teams are going to be fired up and firing up shots in this one, taking the over, so why not double down on that and add this to our NBA prop bets today. The intensity of the playoffs will lead to lower scores down the line, but the first game of the first round is still a little looser on the defensive end, which should lead to plenty of points for both teams.
