Trail Blazers vs Suns Game Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions
Phoenix Riding Roughshod Over Western Conference
Suns Laying Double Digits
The Phoenix Suns are the surprise package of the Western Conference, picking up from where they left off in the NBA Finals last season and stringing together an impressive run to climb to the top of the standings. Based on the sum total of their 2021-22 campaign thus far, it’s no surprise that they’re heavily favored at the sportsbook exchange for Wednesday’s tilt with the Portland Trail Blazers. But, can they come through as the 11-point favorites at the expense of the visiting Blazers?
Suns Slip Up
The Phoenix Suns are in first place in the Western Conference behind a 49-12 mark, which includes a solid 26-7 record at home. Phoenix has a 6½-game edge over the Golden State Warriors and a seven-game lead over the Memphis Grizzlies, their nearest threats in second and third place, respectively.

Most recently, the Suns have dropped back-to-back games following an eight-game winning streak. These were losses to the New Orleans Pelicans (117-102) and the Utah Jazz (118-114) and both came at home. The Pelicans upset the Suns as the 6½-point road underdogs while the Jazz came through as the three-point road favorites for NBA picks and predictions.
Phoenix received bad news on Wednesday with the announcement that leading scorer Devin Booker was placed in the Covid health and safety protocols.
In the betting, the Suns strike a convincing pose behind a 33-28-0 record against the spread (ATS) that includes a 7.8 winning margin on average. At home, the Suns are 15-18-0 ATS with an 8.1 winning margin on average and a -0.8 differential versus the spread. As the home favorite, the Suns are 15-17-0 with an 8.5 winning margin on average and a -0.8 differential versus the spread.

Trail Blazers in Poor Form
The Portland Trail Blazers are in the midst of a two-game losing streak that saw them slip to a 4-6-0 record in their last 10 games and 25-36 on th season. As things currently stand, the Blazers are 24 games behind the conference-leading Phoenix Suns and just outside of the playoff frame. If the season were to end today, the Blazers would be blazing a trail to their sofas and not the playoffs.
Portland’s main struggles have come on the road, where it is a subpar 9-18. Overall, the Blazers are 25-36-0 ATS with a 4.9 losing margin on average and a -3 differential versus the spread. As the away team, they are 10-17-0 ATS with a 7.4 losing margin on average and a -3.7 differential versus the spread. As the away underdog, the Blazers are 7-11-0 ATS with a 9,9 losing margin on average and a -2.6 differential versus the spread.
Trail Blazers vs Suns Head-to-Head
Portland’s record against Phoenix is nothing to write home about, with the Trail Blazers sporting a 3-7 record straight up and against the spread. The over has cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings.
The last meeting between the pair resulted in a 111-107 overtime win for the visiting Suns. The last meeting at the Footprint Center went the way of the hosts too, with the Suns clinching the 119-109 win to come through as the -5 home chalk in betting online markets.

Trail Blazers vs Suns Prediction
At face value, an 11-point spread is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a lot of points to be spotting either way on the NBA odds board and especially when both sides are coming off losing efforts. That said, there’s no doubting the gap in quality, talent and form between this pair which underlines their favorable outlook in sports betting markets.
Portland is coming off a couple of really bad losses to the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets and the Suns may well be in a position to heap more misery even without Booker.
