Who’s Hot and Who’s Not Against the NBA ATS Odds | Feb. 1

Will the Utah Jazz and LA Clippers continue covering the online betting spread at a high rate as we get set for a new week of action? At the opposite end of the spectrum, can the Heat and Raptors pick up the pace after some early-season struggles? With the 2020-21 NBA regular season heating up as we get set for Week 7, it’s time to find out which teams are consistently covering the ATS sportsbook betting odds consistently and which teams are not. This week, let’s get started with the handful of teams at the bottom of the NBA ATS odds-betting barrel.

NBA ATS Odds: Not

Toronto Raptors (6-10 ATS)

After a nice 5-1 run over its previous six games, the Toronto Raptors (8-12) went 1-3 SU and ATS over the last week. The Raptors did manage to get past the Orlando Magic 115-102 on Sunday, but I wouldn’t expect a turnaround anytime soon. Toronto ranks 17th in scoring (111.3 ppg) and 13th in points allowed (110.3 ppg). That’s while ranking a pitiful 27th in field goal shooting percentage (44.0%). Toronto has a trio of players that all average at least 18.0 points per game. So, I’m not counting out the Raptors making a run at reaching the playoffs.

Miami Heat (6-12-1 ATS)

The Miami Heat (7-12 SU) got team leader Jimmy Butler back this past weekend after his long absence because of NBA COVID-19 protocol. Still, Miami didn’t look particularly impressive in squeaking past the Sacramento Kings 105-104 on Saturday while failing to cover the chalk as a 6.5-point home favorite. Miami went 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS over the last week.

New Orleans Pelicans (7-11 ATS)

The New Orleans Pelicans (7-11 SU) had its two-game winning streak snapped in its 126-112 loss against red-hot Houston on Saturday. Still, New Orleans did look pretty impressive in beating the Wizards and the Milwaukee Bucks prior to their loss against the Houston Rockets. The bad news is that the Pelicans rank an uninspiring 19th in scoring (110.6 ppg). And unfortunatley, 22nd in points allowed (112.8 ppg).

Brooklyn Nets (9-13 ATS)

The Brooklyn Nets (13-9 SU) might be prohibitive favorites to win the Eastern Conference crown, but the Nets have struggled to cover the spread all season long. Kevin Durant and company went 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS over the last week. However, Brooklyn has some serious problems on defense.

The Nets rank 27th in points allowed (117.7 ppg) and have allowed at least 125 points in each of their last three games including Sunday’s stunning 149-146 loss against the Washington Wizards.

Here is a look at the NBA Conference Championship Odds.

Minnesota Timberwolves (8-11 ATS)

The Minnesota Timberwolves dropped three straight last week before getting past the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-104 in a thriller on Sunday to cap off the week at 1-3 SU and ATS.  I’ve been impressed with rookie shooting guard Anthony Edwards. But the T-Wolves need Karl Anthony Towns back in the worst way possible. Minnesota ranks a discouraging 26th in scoring (106.7 ppg) and points allowed (116.4 ppg).

NBA ATS Odds: Hot

Utah Jazz (14-6 ATS)

The Utah Jazz (15-5 SU) had its 11-game SU and ATS winning streaks snapped in Sunday’s 128-117 road loss vs the Denver Nuggets. However, the Jazz have been a cash cow since opening night. Utah ranks an encouraging ninth in scoring (113.6 ppg). They are third in 3-point shooting (39.9%) while ranking third in points allowed (106.3 ppg). Despite their recent loss, the Jazz have the look of a very legitimate title contender out west.

Los Angeles Clippers (13-8 ATS)

The Los Angeles Clippers (16-5 SU) have won three straight and a blistering nine of 10 coming into the new week. That’s including a 129-115 smackdown of the New York Knicks on Sunday. LA is ranked seventh in scoring (114.5 ppg) and has picked up their play at the defensive end of the floor after a slow start. Los Angeles is ranked fourth in points allowed (106.7 ppg). The Clippers head into Tuesday night’s huge matchup against Brooklyn having gone 3-0 ATS over its last three games. They were 7-2 ATS over the last nine games overall.

Let’s take a look at the odds to win the 2021 NBA Championship.

San Antonio Spurs (12-8 ATS)

The San Antonio Spurs (11-9 SU) recorded a pair of highly impressive wins over the Boston Celtics and Denver before losing to Memphis 129-112 on Saturday. The Spurs are 3-1 SU and ATS over their last four games but are the definition of mediocrity statistically speaking. San Antonio averages 111.7 points per game (15th) and allows 111.3 points per contest defensively (17th).

Memphis Grizzlies (9-5 ATS)

The Memphis Grizzlies (8-6) have won six straight while going 6-0 ATS along the way. Memphis has recorded stunning wins over Brooklyn, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phoenix Suns, and San Antonio during the span while limiting four teams to 107 points or less during the winning streak. To make matters worse for their opponents, the Grizzlies just got back superstar point guard Ja Morant. He has been out after an injury that cost him over two weeks of action. The gifted floor general responded with 19 points and 11 assists to lead the Grizz to a 129-112 win over the Spurs on Saturday.

Chicago Bulls (11-7 ATS)

The Chicago Bulls (7-11 SU) remains inside the top 5 in the ATS standings. However, the Bulls lost their only two games over the last week. Chicago got smacked around by Boston 119-103 last Monday. They suffered a stunning 123-122 loss against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday as Damian Lillard nailed a game-winning three at the buzzer.

The Bulls are ranked a fantastic fifth in scoring by putting up a healthy 115.7 points per game. But, Chicago has been horrific defensively in allowing 118.5 points per contest (28th). Simply put, I’m expecting Chicago to come back to the middle of the NBA ATS odds pack moving forward.
