It could be more interesting to watch to see how the draft order will be changing in the coming weeks as teams out of contention for playoff spots will start looking to the future if they haven’t already started that process.
It will be worth keeping tabs on players opting out of bowl games as that is a clear indication of their future aspirations. The players with the best odds according to the NFL Vegas odds to be the top pick (USC’s Williams and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye) are not on teams vying for spots in the College Football Playoff field. It is not looking good for Marvin Harrison Jr.’s Ohio State team being among four teams in the CFP field as well.
Players not taking part in the CFP could be more likely to opt out of the bowl games that their team will be playing in.
When looking at the top players by position, Williams, receiver Marvin Harrison (+1800), offensive lineman Olumuyiwa Fashanu (+3500), edge rushers Dallas Turner (+4000), J.T. Tuimoloau (+4000) and Jared Verse (+4000), interior defensive lineman Michael Hall Jr. (+4500), cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry (+4500), tight end Brock Bowers (+8000), and linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (+8000) are the front-runners to go No. 1 overall at their respective spots, according to the NFL Draft odds.
The 2024 NFL Draft is set for April 25-27 in Detroit.
Big Move by the Panthers
Perhaps Bryce Young will become the franchise quarterback and lead the Carolina Panthers to multiple playoff appearances.
In the meantime, Carolina is going to take some heat for trading what is likely going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to the Chicago Bears in a move that landed the Panthers the former Alabama quarterback.
The 1-10 Panthers made a move to try to change that by firing multiple coaches including head coach Frank Reich. That was one of the items making the most NFL news over the last week.
If there is some good news, it is that the next four games for Carolina come against teams with losing records. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Carolina could finish with a better mark than the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots and that would mean that the pick going from Carolina to Chicago would not be the No. 1 selection.
If the draft was held today, Chicago would hold picks Nos. 1 and 4 with Arizona and New England having picks No. 2 and 3 followed by the New York Giants at 5.
What Will the Bears Do?
Chicago traded a future first-round pick in a package to select quarterback Justin Fields with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft.
Now there are calls for the Bears to trade Fields and zero in on Williams as the new face of the franchise. Williams hasn’t announced his intentions but there are more rumblings that he will enter the draft.
What’s next for Caleb Williams?
The USC QB tells @latimes that it’s a “game-time decision” whether he’ll declare for the draft, but around Williams, most expect him to head to the NFL, whomever is in position to pick him https://t.co/twv03MvnVu

Fields is one of the best running quarterbacks in the NFL but his passing is still a work in progress.
When it comes to the best NFL bets this week, Williams is priced at -380 to be the No. 1 overall pick.
The Bears got a nice haul for the No. 1 pick a year ago. Could Chicago stick with Fields and add more draft capital?
Another option is to select Ohio State’s Harrison Jr. with the top pick and that would give the Chicago quarterback Harrison and D.J. Moore on the outside and tight end Cole Kmet as targets.
Who Wants a Quarterback?
There are 10 teams with four wins or less so expect plenty of movement in the draft order as the 2023 NFL season moves along.
Just in Week 13, the 4-7 Los Angeles Chargers will play the 2-9 New England Patriots and the 1-10 Carolina Panthers meet the 4-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Even if the Bears stick with Fields and the Arizona Cardinals choose to move forward with former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray, the New England Patriots with Mac Jones, the New York Giants with Daniel Jones, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Baker Mayfield are among the teams that could be looking to select one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
When looking at the 10 players with the best odds to go first overall, six are quarterbacks with Williams and Maye followed by Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. (+1800), Quinn Ewers of Texas (+2500), Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy (+4000) and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
Thanks For Playing
The final first-round pick that Houston will receive in the trade that sent quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns is looking like a late selection with Cleveland sitting with a 7-4 record.
It has already gone down as one of the top deals in franchise history with offensive lineman Kenyon Green, running back Dameon Pierce and linebacker Christian Harris among the players the Texans acquired through the draft thanks to that deal.
In 2023, another Cleveland first-round pick that moved to Houston was part of a trade for edge rusher Will Anderson and another selection was used to get rookie receiver Tank Dell.
Houston is still getting this year’s first- and fourth-round picks from Cleveland in the 2024 draft.
Watson has played in 12 games over the last two seasons and he will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Will Caleb Williams be the first overall pick?
If he chooses to come out, he will almost certainly be the top pick.
