Highest-Paid NFL Coaches in 2025
Reid Leading the Way
With three Super Bowl titles and five Super Bowl appearances over the last six seasons, it is hardly a surprise that the highest-paid NFL head coach is Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Reid is fourth in NFL history with 273 career victories in the regular season. His 28 playoff victories are second only to Bill Belichick.
Reid has work to do to move up in the career coaching victories list, as he is 29 wins behind Belichick for the No. 3 spot.
Belichick is now coaching in college at North Carolina, so Reid will have a chance to close the gap. Don Shula still holds the record with 328 wins during the regular season, followed by George Halas’s total of 218 victories. He’ll do it while being the highest-paid NFL head coach at $20 million per season.
A Look At Other Active Coaches
Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers is next on the list of wins by active head coaches. He is 183-107-2 in 18 seasons with the Steelers, earning his spot among the highest-paid NFL coaches.
In a league where some franchises change head coaches every couple of years, the Steelers have had just three head coaches since 1969. It started with Chuck Noll, who coached the Steelers to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s. Bill Cowher led Pittsburgh to victory in Super Bowl XL.
Tomlin led the Steelers to the Super Bowl in two of his first four seasons. In his 18 seasons with the Steelers, he has yet to post a losing record and has made 12 playoff appearances.
Tomlin needs eight more wins to move into the top 10 in the career wins by NFL head coaches.
Will he reach the top 10 before his AFC North Division coaching rival, John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens?
Tomlin is tied for third on the list of the highest-paid NFL head coaches. One of the coaches ahead of him is Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos. He is tied with Pete Carroll with 170 career regular-season wins.
Payton earns $18 million per season, which puts him second on the list of the highest NFL coaching salaries.
Big Pay Day Coming?
After leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl title, Nick Sirianni could be due for a considerable raise.
Sirianni signed a five-year contract worth $35 million, and his annual salary puts him outside the top 10 in the top NFL head coaching salaries list. That could change sooner rather than later as he gets rewarded after Philadelphia’s championship run.
Who Are the Newest NFL Head Coaches?
There have been 25 head coaches hired since 2020. Seven of those coaches have been hired since the Eagles ended Kansas City’s bid for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl title.
The New England Patriots hired former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel on January 12.
Ben Johnson was a sought-after candidate before agreeing to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears on Jan. 21.
Aaron Glenn was hired by the New York Jets on January 22 after spending four seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions.
Three days later, the Raiders named Pete Carroll their head coach. The day before that, Liam Coen was named the new head coach in Jacksonville. On the same day, Brian Schottenheimer was named Mike McCarthy’s replacement.
The final NFL vacancy was filled on Feb. 11 when the Saints hired Kellen Moore after helping the Eagles win the Super Bowl in his only season as Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator.
These new hires will result in the list of the lowest-paid NFL head coaches being adjusted.
Which NFL Coaches Have The Largest Contracts?
Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs leads the way with an average salary of $20 million per season. Sean Payton of AFC West rival Denver is next at $18 million, with Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jim Harbaugh of the Los Angeles Chargers.
