Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens had a rare problem last week in getting by the visiting Browns, 23-20. It was usually-productive Lamar Jackson anything but that, just 9-of-16 passing (120 yards). What’s worse was the mobile Jackson had a mere 59 yards (10 rushes).

It was the Ravens’ defense that came to the rescue. Baltimore did come out on top in the turnover battle, tallied fewer penalties, and held the Browns to 2-of-11 on third down. This is a dangerous team if the defense takes a step or two forward. Jackson’s down effort notwithstanding, Baltimore still ranks sixth in points per game, and eighth in yards per play.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Things couldn’t get any worse for the Bucs and Tom Brady, until they did, getting humiliated, 21-3, by a Christian McCaffrey-less Carolina Panther team starting a third-string quarterback. The loss was one of the rare embarrassments of Brady’s career and dropped him and his team below .500.

It’s the first time in two decades a Brady-led offense is below .500 (3-4) after seven weeks in a season. With the fifth-worst scoring total (eighth-lowest yards per game) and just 1.6 touchdowns per game, things in Tampa Bay are critical. Not only do they have the least yards per rush in the NFL, but the passing game is in shambles too. It doesn’t help when superstars like Mike Evans drop uncontested touchdown passes, as was the case on Sunday. There is a lot of work to be done in a short week to feel great about the Bucs.

Ravens vs Buccaneers Prediction

It’s clear that Brady and the Bucs are in serious trouble. Sure, Jackson stunk it up in Week 7, but we think he’s a better candidate for a bounce-back game on the TNF odds. It comes down to how the Ravens’ defensive line matches up with the Bucs. Tampa Bay’s O-line gave up too many players and is in shambles. Rookie guard Luke Godeke has been brutally bad, and the Ravens know it. Baltimore’s defense ranks 5th in the NFL in total sacks and will likely be all over Brady.
