The Chicago Bears delivered one of the biggest upsets of the first week of the NFL season, dealing with the highly fancied (and overly hyped) San Francisco 49ers, 19-10, defeat at Soldier Field.
Granted the conditions weren’t ideal. Monsoon-like rain flooded Soldier Field, especially late in the game with a deluge that turned it into Lake Michigan. However, the conditions were identical for both teams. So, one has to give the Bears some credit for overcoming both the challenging conditions and a Niners team that is still in the eyes of many a legitimate Super Bowl 57 contender.

The Bears went into the game as touchdown underdogs and got off to a slow start that seemed to fall in line with the betting online NFL odds. They were down 10-0 after the first 40 minutes, pointless and utterly ineffective across all facets of the game.
Perhaps, the Bears had no business winning. But somehow they did. They flipped the script in the last 20 minutes, reeling off 19 points. Their perseverance played a part as did the complete collapse of the Niners in the last quarter and a half.

If there’s a word/phrase that springs to mind, it’s déjà vu.
Last season, the Green Bay Packers got off to a similar horrendous start with a shocking 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints on the road. However, they quickly recovered the following week with a 35-17 win over the Detroit Lions. From then on, they never looked back as they wound up 13-4-0 and clinched the No.1 seed.
Rodgers and the Packers offense failed to launch at US Bank Stadium. Nothing seemed to work and they were left in envy of the Vikings’ offense, which seemed to be playing with complete abandon under new head coach Kevin O’Connell. Kirk Cousins had his way with the Packers defense, Justin Jefferson ran riot, trotting up 184 yards receiving and scoring a couple of touchdowns.

CHI: WR Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring) is questionable while N’Keal Harry (ankle) is expected to miss at least six weeks.
GB: G Elgton Jenkins (knee), T David Bakhtiari (knee), WR Allen Lazard (ankle), and LB Quay Walker (shoulder) are questionable. LB Krys Barnes (ankle) and RB Kylin Hill (knee) are out indefinitely.
