Bears vs Patriots Betting Odds and NFL Analysis
Bill Belichick has a tough decision to make in terms of who will start at quarterback for the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football odds game against the visiting Chicago Bears.
Incumbent Mac Jones has declared himself ready to return from a three-game absence due to a high-ankle sprain and took the first-team reps with the offensive line at practice Thursday. Now it is up to Belichick, who can pass Bears legendary head coach George Halas for the No. 2 spot in NFL career coaching wins, to decide if that is really the case and if Jones gives him a better chance to win than rookie Bailey Zappe on the MNF odds.
As the analytics crowd is eager to point out, the Patriots have employed a more simplified game plan on offense with Zappe at quarterback than they were with Jones earlier in the season, but it is hard to ignore the overall results.
Zappe, who is 2-0 in his starts, has thrown for 596 yards with four touchdowns and one interception over 11 quarters of action. Jones has 786 passing yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions in the three games he has started this season.
The Bears’ offense under Justin Fields, who was drafted four spots ahead of Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft, has been a disaster, averaging just 15.5 points this season.
Matt Eberflus’ team scored just seven points in last week’s loss to the Washington Commanders – its third straight – leaving Fields visibly frustrated after the game.
“I have the same frustration after every loss. I don’t like losing,” Fields, who has completed fewer than 55% of his passes with four touchdowns and five interceptions, told the media. “It’s just seeing where you can get better, where you can improve.”

Meyers Spark for Patriots
Jakobi Meyers isn’t mentioned in the same breath as the top receivers in the NFL, but in terms of targets and catching the ball, he ranks right up there with the best.
The fourth-year player out of North Carolina State leads the Patriots in receptions (24) and receiving yards (321) despite playing in just four of the team’s six games.
Meyers ranks seventh amongst NFL receivers in catch rate (77.4), with teammate Kendrick Bourne just ahead of him at 78.6%, and 12th in targets per route run (26%).
Meyers isn’t as explosive as players such as Cooper Kupp and Justin Jefferson, and it shows up in yards after catch (YAC), where Meyers has just 82 yards this season. But, he is as dependable as they come and will get a nice contract next season as a result.
Jakobi Meyers is good at this. Dude is gonna get paid. https://t.co/95GeML7rwL

Bears Need Running Game to Respond
The Bears will need to fire up the running game if they are to have a chance of beating the Patriots for just the second time since a 46-10 victory in Super XX in 1986.
Khalil Herbert and David Montgomery have nearly the same amount of carries, but Herbert has been much more productive, averaging 6.4 yards per carry.
Fields add quite a bit to the running game, averaging 47 yards per game, and the Patriots have been vulnerable against the run, allowing 119 rushing yards per game.
Avoiding long-yardage situations will be critical for the Bears, whose 23 sacks allowed is tied with the Commanders for the most this season. The Patriots have generated 17 sacks, the seventh-most, including six for Matthew Judon.

Bears vs Patriots Prediction
The Patriots should be able to smother the Bears’ offense while scoring just enough points to cover the nine-point spread and give Belichick his 325th coaching victory.
Belichick, who trails Don Shula by 23 wins, has covered 54.7% of games in his career.
