Cincinnati Bengals vs New York Giants
If the rebuilding New York Giants are favored against a Cincinnati Bengals team fresh off a run to the Super Bowl, it must be preseason.
The Bengals have 46 players in either their first or second seasons compared to 40 for the Giants so some relative unknowns could steal the show in this contest. Bengals coach Zac Taylor told the media that he does not anticipate playing many of his starters in this game.

The Giants won their preseason opener 23-21 against the New England Patriots on a field goal by Graham Gano on the final play of the game. New York had more than 400 yards of offense in its preseason opener. The Bengals trailed by 27 points heading into the fourth quarter in a 36-23 loss to Arizona.
According to the NFL betting lines, the Bengals (+170) are just behind the Baltimore Ravens in the odds to win the AFC North Division title. The Giants (+750) are last in the odds to win the NFC East Division title.
The Bengals (+2000) have the sixth-best odds among AFC teams to win the Super Bowl according to the NFL predictions. The Giants (+12500) are tied for the 11th among NFC teams in the odds to finish this season as champions.

Cincinnati Bengals
Jake Browning led the three quarterbacks who saw action in the preseason opener with 190 passing yards and he also ran four times for 14 yards. The Bengals are getting encouraging news on the recovery of starting quarterback Joe Burrow (appendix) but in the meantime, the other quarterbacks are getting quality practice time.
Jacques Patrick led Cincinnati with 30 rushing yards and had a scoring run. He is fighting to make the roster on a team that already has running backs Joe Mixon, Chris Evans, and Samaje Perine. It is an uphill battle.
Seven receivers had at least two catches against the Cardinals. None of them were named Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, or Tyler Boyd.
Safety Daxton Hill, a first-round pick in April’s draft, had a quiet opener with one tackle and one pass breakup. Keep an eye on him in this game.
New York Giants
Offensive tackle Evan Neal is looking like a player who was a top 10 pick in the draft. Fellow top-10 pick Kayvon Thibodeaux had only one tackle in his NFL debut.
The Giants played some of its key offensive players, including quarterback Daniel Jones, running back Saquon Barkley as well as receivers Kenny Golladay and Darius Slayton, for a brief period in the preseason opener. It is worth watching how the playing time is allotted in this game.
Rookie cornerback Darren Evans, fifth-round pick Micah McFadden and Austin Calitro, playing for his fifth team in five years, led the Giants with four tackles each against the Patriots.

Bengals vs Giants Prediction
The Giants are trying to improve to 2-0 in the preseason for the second time since 2015. They dropped all three preseason contests a season ago.
New York has covered in six of the last eight preseason games. The Giants are favored in back-to-back preseason contests for the first time since 2017.
Something to consider for those who bet online, the Bengals were only 1-2 in the preseason in 2021 and that didn’t stop Cincinnati from making a run all the way to the Super Bowl. The Bengals have lost seven of their last nine preseason affairs and covered in just three of those games.
With the Giants likely to play more of the players who could be key players in the regular season, it is not surprising to see them favored in this contest.
Pick: Over 38½
Pick: New York Giants -6 (even)
