The Cleveland Browns travel to Cincinnati in Week 9 for an AFC North showdown. The Browns (4-4) fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers 15-10 while the Bengals (5-3) also dropped their game to the New York Jets 34-31. Early NFL odds opened with the Bengals as the -2½ home favorite, with the point total at 45½.

The Browns were flat on offense and made a ton of mistakes on both sides of the ball in their inexcusable loss to the Steelers in Week 8.

A good sign for Cleveland was that quarterback Baker Mayfield returned to action but he put up a pedestrian line, recording zero touchdowns or interceptions on 225 yards through the air. The problem was his receivers failed him as Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham, and Austin Hooper all had drops.

The NFL’s best rushing attack was stifled with Nick Chubb often getting hit in the backfield and having multiple carries with zero or negative yards.

Pro Football Focus has the Browns rated as the second-highest graded defensive team through seven weeks. However, their tackling has been horrendous, especially against a limited Steeler offense, and ultimately helped to give Pittsburgh the win.

The Bengals dropped a disappointing loss to the Jets and fell to second in the AFC North. It was an odd week for one of the league’s hottest team. The defense made Jets quarterback backup Mike White look like Peyton Manning, while the offense had five yards in the first quarter.

The defense hasn’t been great against the pass, allowing 267 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks, and conceded 405 yards through the air to the Jets.

The Bengals have a ton of playmakers on offense with Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon and Ja’Marr Chase. However, they came out flat and allowed the Jets’ offense to stay on the field. Burrow is proving that he is elite, keeping the Bengals in the game to the end with 259 yards and three touchdowns.
