Wilson’s Broncos Hit Seattle as Favorites
A dozen narratives fill up the 2022 NFL season’s first Monday Night Football odds game between the visiting Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. Russell Wilson, beloved hero of the Seattle Seahawks for a decade, returns to the place he once called home with his new Denver Broncos. The NFL betting lines favor Wilson and his new crew as the second-richest quarterback in the league looks for a successful debut as a Bronco on MNF odds.

Broncos Have it all but …
For the last few seasons, the Denver Broncos have quietly built a Super Bowl contender. The only problem was the most important: They lacked an elite quarterback. Briefly linked with Aaron Rodgers, the Broncos got their man by acquiring Wilson earlier this year.
Now, the online sports betting odds peg Denver as one of the eight best NFL teams to win Super Bowl LVII. Could this be a repeat of the mid-2010s when Denver acquired Peyton Manning? This current team certainly has it all: talented skill-position players, solid defense, and a decent offensive line.
Wilson didn’t have the latter two in Seattle. He put up a passer rating of 105.0 in his last three seasons despite running for his life plenty of times. Now better protected and with a coaching staff that wants to focus on his talents, the sky is the limit for the superstar. Of course, this is all on paper. The Broncos will need to do it “for real”.
If Carroll Puts on Coaching Clinic …
Wilson may have been the only thing holding the Seattle Seahawks from falling apart from last season. After he went down, the team had its first losing season since before he became the quarterback. But if Pete Carroll is truly the coaching genius he’s made out to be, he has the edge over the Broncos’ new coaching crew.
Now Carroll can run the Seahawks the way he wants. Geno Smith is no Wilson but he’s a decent quarterback. Seattle still has D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, arguably the best receiver tandem in the NFL. And Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker III are a potent one-two punch at running back.
Defense is where Carroll’s coaching acumen will come to shine. Seattle, on paper, has one of the worst units in the league. It’s even worse this season as stars like Bobby Wagner and D.J. Reed are gone. Seattle added help on the pass rush, there’s that. But as far as betting online, this defense will need to prove better than the sum of its parts.
Broncos vs Seahawks Head-to-Head
Since Wilson came into the league, the Seahawks are 2-0-1 as an NFL pick against the spread (ATS) vs. Denver. Wilson only had a 43.8 percent cover rate as a favorite on the road. Seattle was 8-5 ATS as an underdog at home in 2010 and 2011, the two seasons Carroll coached the team without Wilson.

Broncos vs Seahawks Prediction
The Broncos have the edge here. The team is just better all-around and Wilson will be familiar with his old coach and his schemes. However, as per the points, we like Seattle. This team is not as bad as most analysts are projecting and Carroll will be extra motivated to coach against the Broncos, who have a rookie coach in charge.
Denver will have to beat Seattle by a touchdown or more. We like Seattle’s odds with that. Wilson will be met with respect in his return to Lumen, but we can still expect the fans to make it more challenging for him in his return.
