The visiting Detroit Lions attempt to hand the Pittsburgh Steelers their first loss of the preseason. The Lions come off a 27-26 win against the Indianapolis Colts, and the Steelers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 16-15.
Pittsburgh continues to see encouraging progress from rookies. Meanwhile, Detroit is building momentum for a turnaround season. So far, the Lions are getting improved play from nearly every spot.
As the regular season draws near, NFL lines have the Lions as the third choice (+900) to win the NFC North, and the Steelers have the lowest odds (+850) to win the AFC North.
Check out the latest NFL news, stats, injury reports and NFL odds for Lions vs Steelers. There are plenty of NFL picks and predictions to consider.
Detroit Lions
Last year, Jared Goff had one of his lowest QBR marks at 39.5. Many expect the Detroit Lions to draft a potential franchise QB in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, Goff could make things interesting. He looked solid in Week 1 preseason action versus the Atlanta Falcons. Goff will not play against the Steelers, but other starters will get about a half of playing time.
The No. 2 pick of the 2022 draft, Aidan Hutchinson, is one to keep an eye on. In his debut in Week 1 of the preseason, Hutchinson looked great in 11 snaps. Rookie linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez will get plenty of reps as he looks to earn a spot in the rotation. Furthermore, cornerback Jeff Okudah — who was the No. 3 pick in the 2020 draft — is finally healthy. As he looks to find his footing, Okudah’s play has been shaky.
On offense, the O-line could dominate. Against the Colts, the second-strings looked good. This week, most starters will go. Many expect Detroit’s offensive line to be a top 10 unit in the NFL.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The play of rookies Kenny Pickett and George Pickens have headlined the Pittsburgh Steelers’ preseason. Both have sky-rocketed up the Offensive Rookie of the Year odds. NFL lines have Pickett as the favorite (+800) and Pickens is the third choice (+1000).
Against Jacksonville, Pickett looked fantastic once again. He finished 6/7 with 76 passing yards and a 151.5 passer rating. The Steelers QB competition is still open. With that said, every quarterback’s play is important. This is a three-man race between Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph. Right now, it looks like Pickett or Trubisky will start.

The offensive line is a big concern going into the regular season, especially following its poor showing against the Jags. Pittsburgh will struggle to score if the O-line continues this level of play.
On the defensive line, Larry Ogunjobi and rookie DeMarvin Leal come off great performances. The consistency of linebackers Devin Bush and Myles Jack will decide how good the Steelers’ defense can be.
Lions vs Steelers Injury Report
A couple of Lions landed on injured lists this week: Jameson Williams and Josh Paschal. In addition, Quintez Cephus and Devin Funchess are questionable.
For Pittsburgh, starting guard Kevin Dotson, rookie wideout Calvin Austin III and linebacker Alex Highsmith are questionable. Offensive tackle Joe Haeg, nose tackle Montravius Adams and linebacker Ahkello Witherspoon are also questionable. Safety Karl Joseph and wideout Anthony Miller are on the Injured Reserve list.
Lions vs Steelers Head-to-Head
The Steelers are 5-0-1 over the last six meetings. Last season’s matchup was a tie at 16-16.

Lions vs Steelers Prediction
Detroit is committed to gearing up for the regular season. Several starters will get nearly one-half of playing, which is a lot for the preseason. On the other hand, the Steelers have some starters and rotational players dealing with injuries. Pittsburgh will likely focus on getting healthy. The Lions will cover on the road.
