Tua Time Once Again
The Miami Dolphins go after their fifth win in a row and look to remain in first place in the competitive AFC East. Miami’s winning streak has coincided with the return of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa has the best passer rating in the NFL and during the four-game winning streak, he has 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions. A one-win Houston team comes to town but don’t let the 1-8-1 record fool you; Houston has been in nearly every game this season.
The teams are a combined 9-10-1 against the spread with the Texans 2-2-1 on the road and the Dolphins 3-2 at home.
This is the second time in the last seven seasons that the Dolphins are double-digit favorites according to the NFL betting odds. Miami won both of those games but went 1-1 against the spread.
Per the NFL playoff odds, the Dolphins (+1600) have the seventh-best odds to win the Super Bowl.

Pierce Looks to Get Going
This has been quite the rookie season for Houston running back Dameon Pierce. However, there won’t be many plays from last week’s loss to Washington on the end-of-the-season highlight reel.
Pierce carried the ball 10 times for eight yards with his long run of the game going for three yards. Houston managed just 21 yards on 16 carries.
Pierce trails only Seattle’s Kenneth Walker III in the odds to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, according to the Las Vegas odds.
It didn’t help that the average per pass attempt was 5.1 yards. Other than a 41-yard pass to Brandin Cooks, that number drops to 4 yards per attempt. That allowed Washington to load the box, bringing safeties up near the line of scrimmage and daring Houston to throw the ball down the field. With that in mind, it looks as if Kyle Allen will start in place of Davis Mills this week.
It is not a good sign that offensive linemen Justin Britt and Austin Deculus have been sidelined since last October.
Dolphins Hitting Stride
After playing four straight games decided by a total of 13 points, Miami finally got to lower the boom on an opponent.
Miami narrowly missed putting up 500 yards of offense as Miami ran for 195 yards and threw for 296 more to cruise by the Cleveland Browns 39-17.
Miami had touchdown-scoring drives of 84, 77 and 70 yards as the Dolphins had the ball for nearly 6½ more minutes than Cleveland did.
Already without offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg, now tackle and key offseason acquisition Terron Armstead is questionable with a toe injury. If Armstead can’t go, that could impact the ability of dynamic receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle to make plays down the field.
We’re halfway through the season, so let’s look #InsideTheNumbers! 📊⤵️
– With 3,059 passing yards, the Dolphins lead the NFL
– The Dolphins have won 10 of their last 11 games at @HardRockStadium
– @cheetah and @D1__JW are 1st and 4th in the league for most receiving yards

Speaking of key trades, the move to pick up running back Jeff Wilson from the San Francisco 49ers is paying off. He had 119 rushing yards in the win over Cleveland and is averaging 6.5 yards per carry in his two games with the Dolphins.
Miami is facing a Houston team that is allowing more rushing yards per game (178.9) than any other NFL team.

Texans vs Dolphins Head-to-Head
It might be surprising to some to find out that Houston won the first seven meetings against Miami with the first five of those being decided by seven points or less. The winning team has also been covered in each of the last six meetings.
Miami has won two of the last three games with both of those wins coming at home. This is the first time since the 2011 and 2012 seasons that the teams are meeting in back-to-back seasons.
Just two of the last six matchups finished over the total and this is the second time in the series’ history that there is a double-digit line posted by the sportsbook.

Texans vs Dolphins Picks & Prediction
Predicted Score: Dolphins 34, Texans 17
- Worth Betting on the Moneyline?
With the Dolphins priced at -800 when facing the team with the worst record in the NFL, it might be a good game to pass on.
The Dolphins are 4-1 at home with one of the wins against preseason AFC East favorite Buffalo.
Houston has been in most of the games but the Texans have been digging themselves some holes with just one field goal in the first half of the last two games.
- Worth Betting ATS?
The line opened at 9½ but obviously, those who bet online were jumping all over that number, going with the Dolphins to cover because the line has moved to 13½. The Texans have lost only one game by more than 13 points, but this could be a tough assignment for a struggling Houston team to play at Miami.
- Worth Betting on the Totals?
This could be a little risky considering that two of Houston’s first five road games and one of the five home contests for Miami have gone over the total. The last time Miami played host to Houston, the result was a 17-9 Miami win.
The 47-point total matches the number in the 2011 game but since then the four games between the teams since then had lower totals.
- Tempting Props?
With the recent offensive struggles by Houston, going with Miami at -200 to score first makes a lot of sense though the Dolphins have not scored first in each of their last three games.
