Jacksonville Jaguars vs Atlanta Falcons

Two teams expected to be among the worst in the NFL clash on Saturday when the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons meet at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A game between these two teams is tough to get excited about, which goes double for the preseason. However, despite the lackluster teams on display, the betting value is still top-notch.

The NFL odds list Atlanta as four-point favorites despite having one of the worst rosters in the league. Not that the Jaguars are championship-caliber, but it is a bit shocking that the Falcons are such heavy favorites against anyone.

Let’s check the latest NFL news, stats, injury reports and NFL odds for Jaguars vs Falcons. We’ve plenty of NFL picks and predictions for you to consider.

Jaguars: 0-for-Preseason

The Jacksonville Jaguars enter Saturday’s finale with the worst preseason record in the league. Because they lost the Hall of Fame Game, Jacksonville is the only team with a chance to finish the preseason 0-4. Considering Doug Peterson is 2-9 all-time in the preseason, their record shouldn’t be that surprising. It should also not surprise us that most of Jacksonville’s starters will take the day off.

This leaves the combo of C.J. Beathard and E.J. Perry to handle snaps under center as the pair compete for Trevor Lawrence’s backup job. Lawrence took most of the snaps to start the game last week, but we would be surprised if he saw any action in Week 3. Bethard, who went 6 of 10 with 52 yards passing last week, should get the bulk of the work but is far from a lock to earn second-string status.

The Jaguars’ defense played a great game in Week 2 after holding the Pittsburgh Steelers to 279 yards. Pittsburgh managed just 24 rushing yards and ended up winning. But, the defense played better than expected overall. We don’t expect many starters to participate, so it will be interesting to see what kind of defensive depth this team has.

Falcons to Feature Rookie QB

Marcus Mariota gave Atlanta Falcons fans hope in Week 2 that the Falcons might compete in 2022. While we don’t fully agree, Mariota did look good as he drove confidently in back-to-back possessions. But, it’s his time to rest as the Falcons are expected to have rookie Desmond Ridder the helm in Week 3. Ridder has been very good in a backup role with 143 yards in Week 2 against the New York Jets. He should be oozing with confidence after combining with Feleipe Franks to lead this team to 380 yards on offense against New York.

The Falcons turn the ball over a lot and are 1-4 in their last five preseason games, so it’s not all good news in Atlanta.

Furthermore, this team is expected to be one of the worst in the league despite their new quarterback.

Jaguars vs Falcons Injury Report

The Jaguars have a few players listed as questionable heading into Saturday’s showdown. Cornerback Shaquill Griffin, running back James Robinson, offensive tackle Will Richardson and linebacker Devin Lloyd are all questionable for the preseason finale.

The preseason injuries are stacking up for Atlanta with defensive tackles Jalen Dalton and Vincent Tayler and long snapper Beau Brinley on IL before the season even starts. Rookie wide receiver Drake London is also on the shelf with knee issues and has not been practicing. LB Deion Jones and DT Marlon Davidson are questionable for Saturday.

Jaguars vs Falcons Head-to-Head

The Jaguars and Falcons met once in 2021, with Atlanta earning a 21-14 win on the road in Jacksonville. Since 1996, these teams have played eight times, with Atlanta leading the series 5-3. The Falcons are also on a four-game winning streak versus Jacksonville and haven’t lost a game to them since 2007.

Jaguars vs Falcons Prediction

Atlanta may have eked out a win in preseason already, but it came against a team that was even worse than they were in 2021 in the Detroit Lions. While the preseason is a chance for players to prepare for the regular season, the same can be said for sports bettors. So, we’ll practice betting against the Falcons before Week 1.

This might be the only game left this season in which the Falcons are favored, and this has us scratching our heads. A four-point spread for a team this bad makes little sense and we’ll take advantage of it.

The Falcons’ defense was exposed last weekend against an average New York Jets passing attack. We expect the Jags to shine and shred this secondary for the second week in a row.

Even in the preseason, the Falcons have no reason to be favored by this much. Do yourself a favor and start the Falcons fade early this year in Week 3 of the preseason.
