The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to face the Detroit Lions as the teams with the worst records from last season’s match-up.

Last week, the Jaguars (4-7) pulled off an upset of the Baltimore Ravens, winning 28-27. The team seems to be getting into a good rhythm with two wins over the last three games.

For the Lions (4-7), it was a brutal 28-25 Thanksgiving loss to the Buffalo Bills at home. With a game-tying field goal with 23 seconds left, they thought the game was headed to overtime. Instead, it was enough time for the Bills to win the game on a field goal. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Detroit.

Jaguars vs Lions Betting Lines

Jaguars Ride Lawrence

The game against the Ravens could be a massive confidence boost for Trevor Lawrence. After all the dysfunction from last season and not having a true rookie season because of it, beating the Ravens purely with his arm is a good sign.

After Travis Etienne went down with an injury, the Jaguars could only muster up 38 rushing yards, putting the onus on Lawrence to carry the offense. He delivered, throwing for 321 yards and three touchdowns. More impressively, he led a game-winning 10-play drive for 75 yards, dropping back every play and finishing it off with a touchdown pass to Marvin Jones Jr. and a two-point conversion to Zay Jones.

It has not just been the last game in which Lawrence looked impressive, throwing six touchdowns to no interceptions over the last three. In those games, the Jaguars have gone 2-1, losing against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The defense has been solid, bending but not breaking, while also causing turnovers. It is in the bottom third of the league in yards per game, but the middle of the road in points allowed while forcing the seventh-most turnovers.

Lions Need Defense to be Better

The Lions’ defense has been the worst in the NFL. It has allowed the most points and yards, and over the last three games, it has given up over 400 yards in each. They had been holding the Bills to a respectable number, but then gave up 48 yards in 20 seconds to lose the game.

However, the offense has been the equalizer for the poor defense. It ranks eighth in points and yards, which has kept the Lions close games, so despite a subpar record, they are 7-4 against the spread.

Jared Goff is coming off a good game with two touchdowns with 240 yards while Amon-Ra St. Brown had 122 receiving yards and a score.

While Goff has been solid through the air, the ground game has been the strength of the offense. Jamaal Williams has a league-leading 13 rushing touchdowns, despite the 13th-most yards on the ground. That has helped the Lions score touchdowns on 71% of their trips to the red zone, second-best in the NFL.
