The Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) play host to the Kansas City Chiefs (9-5) in Week 15 for an important AFC West battle at SoFi Stadium on Thursday night football. Each team picked up a win in dominating fashion, with the Chiefs beating the Las Vegas Raiders 48-9, while the Chargers took down the New York Giants 37-21. Early NFL odds opened with the Kansas City Chiefs at -3½, with the point total at 50½.
Kansas City is starting to hit its stride and is riding a six game winning streak after blowing out the Raiders at home. The offense drove the ball down the field all game with Patrick Mahomes completing 83 percent of his passes for two touchdowns while the rushing attack chipped in three touchdowns on the ground.
Defensively, the Chiefs have struggled overall, ranking 25th in total defense while allowing 367.7 yards per game. Kansas City has particularly had problems against the pass, conceding over 250 yards in the air to opponents.
However, the Chiefs have allowed 10.8 points during the six-game winning streak and have held their last three opponents to nine points. The defense limited the Raiders to nine points, grabbing four sacks, an interception and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
The Chargers have been hot and cold recently, but they looked great in all three facets of the game last Sunday. The offense put up 41 against the Cincinnati Bengals and followed that up with a huge performance against the Giants, including three touchdowns from Justin Herbert.
Defensively, the Chargers looked impressive in holding the Giants to seven points before garbage time and picking up an interception. However, Los Angeles’ defense is a big cause for concern as they allowed at least 24 points in seven straight prior to the current two-game winning streak.
The Chargers also can’t stop the run, holding the 31st-ranked rush defense that is conceding over 140 yards on the ground.
