San Francisco Looks to Exact Revenge Against LA
The San Francisco 49ers meet the Los Angeles Rams for the first time since being eliminated in last season’s NFC Championship Game on the MNF odds. Revenge is on Kyle Shanahan’s mind as he looks to continue beating former colleague Sean McVay in the regular season. Shanahan is 7-3 against McVay (both straight-up and against the spread (ATS). That’s why the NFL betting lines favor San Francisco even if it is ever so slightly.

Rams Not at Peak Powers Yet
Don’t be fooled by the Rams’ nonchalant win over Arizona last week. Sean McVay is to Kliff Kingsbury what Kyle Shanahan is to him: kryptonite. The Rams are not the same juggernaut they were in 2021, even if they are still a formidable outfit. Matthew Stafford had a horrendous Week 1 but has rebounded with two solid performances in both of Los Angeles’ wins.
However, the team has virtually no running game. Los Angeles has the third-fewest rushing yards in the NFL. Cam Akers does not appear fully recovered from his injury. This is an impediment to the defense, which is already struggling in itself. The Rams are last in pressure rate and 29th in passes defended.
Now, that is no reason to be alarmed as Los Angeles is still just allowing opposing quarterbacks an 89.3 passer rating. But those stats may just indicate that this team is more vulnerable, something worth noting before betting online.
San Francisco Can’t Catch a Break
The 49ers are feeling the jinx this season. The team opened at Chicago in a thunderstorm and lost Trey Lance for the season in Week 2. In Week 3, the team kept tripping over itself (sometimes, literally). Jimmy Garoppolo should shoulder much of the blame he was mostly responsible for the team scoring just 10 points.

Garoppolo is definitely “not it” as the team’s quarterback, to put it lightly. But thankfully for him, the 49ers are stacked and playing well everywhere else. San Francisco leads the NFL in passing defense and has allowed the lowest first-down conversion rate. The team is also sixth in rushing yards.
If Garoppolo continues to struggle, the team will continue to get hamstrung as it did in Week 3. However, Jimmy G should continue to improve down the stretch. He didn’t get any reps in the preseason and is rusty. He won’t be turning into a Pro Bowler, but he’ll be more reliable down the stretch.
