The Minnesota Vikings (5-6) travel to Detroit to take on the Lions (0-10-1) for an NFC North battle at Ford Field in Week 13. The Vikings fell to the 49ers 34-26 in week 12, while the Lions continued their winless streak after falling to the Bears 16-14. NFL betting lines opened with the Vikings at -7, and the point total at 47.
Every game the Vikings have lost has been by one possession. In other words, this Vikings team is never out of it, but at some point they’ll need to find a way to win those tough games. The defense has struggled in those games, allowing over 30 points in three of their last four contests. Minnesota couldn’t stop the 49ers rushing attack, giving up 208 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
Offensively, the Vikings are led by Kirk Cousins, who has 21 touchdowns but threw his first interception since Week 5 against the Niners. They suffered a major blow when star running back Dalvin Cook suffered a serious injury, dislocating his shoulder and tearing his labrum.
The Vikings, who roll out a top-10 offense that is averaging 381.2 yards, do have a capable backup to Cook in Alexander Mattison.
The Detroit Lions fell yet again in dramatic fashion, this time on a walk-off field goal on Thanksgiving day. The Lions picked up two touchdowns from Jared Goff but couldn’t get anything going without running back D’Andre Swift, who went down with a shoulder injury. In total, the offense is one of the worst in the league, ranking 29th in total yards per game (305.4).
Defensively, the Lions aren’t much better, conceding 376.8 yards to opponents while giving up 26.3 points per game. The Lions did hold the Bears in check, allowing just 16 points, but were shredded through the air for 317 yards.
