The New England Patriots head to LA to take on the Chargers at SoFi Stadium for an intriguing AFC matchup in Week 8. The Patriots looked phenomenal against the Jets, winning 53-13, while the Chargers got a bye after dropping to the Ravens 34-6. Early NFL odds opened with the Chargers as 5½-point favorites, with the over/under at 49.

The Patriots secured their best performance of the year, boasting 53 points against the Jets. Mac Jones has been the best quarterback in the rookie class, completing 70% of his passes, including back-to-back two-touchdown performances. The offense mustered 551 yards of offense and looked equally as impressive on defense.

Kyle Dugger and J.C. Jackson each recorded an interception, and Josh Uche recovered a fumble bringing their takeaway total to 11, seventh-best in the league. The New England defensive unit is ranked 11th on the year and is sixth in scoring defense (20 points per game).

The Chargers come into this matchup well-rested and still in first place in the AFC West after having no answers for Lamar Jackson in Week 6. LA comes off their worst game of 2021, totaling just six points on offense while the defense conceded 187 yards on the ground and 34 points.

After putting up 105 points in their previous three games, the Chargers were held to six points and 221 yards of offense. Justin Herbert came back down to earth, completing 56% of his passes with an interception. Meanwhile, the running game was bottled up, finishing with a disgusting 26 yards.

The Chargers will look to improve their run defense against the Patriots coming off their bye week. Their inability to stop the run has been an ongoing issue allowing a league-worst 162.5 yards per game. It won’t be easy with Patriot running back Damien Harris recording his second straight 100-yard game.
