History to be Made in London Matchup

Surprising Giants Clash With Packers

The New York Giants and Green Bay Packers will be making history before their game even kicks off in London on Sunday.

With both the Giants and Packers owning 3-1 records, it’ll be the first time since the NFL started playing in England that both teams sported a winning record.

The streak has nearly been broken a few times over the 15 years that the league has played overseas. The 2019 matchup between the 5-3 Texans and 4-4 Jaguars was the last time it almost ended.

While this will be the first time the Packers will be playing overseas, it marks the third time for the Giants, making New York the eighth team to have played in London three times.

The Giants, who won their first two games by a combined four points, picked up their third win this past week, 20-12 over the Chicago Bears. New York will be looking to stay undefeated in London.

The Packers, meanwhile, started slowly with a 23-7 loss to division rival Minnesota before winning their next three games. Green Bay won in overtime (27-24) against a New England Patriots team that largely featured their third-string quarterback. The Packers will be looking to get an easier win abroad against another ailing team in New York.

Despite an early-season loss to the Vikings, Green Bay has the best odds to win the NFC North with -125 odds. The Giants, in a surprisingly successful NFC East, have the third-best odds to win the division with +1200 odds.

Let’s check the latest NFL odds, stats, injury reports, and NFL lines for Giants vs Packers. We’ve plenty of NFL Vegas odds for you to consider.

Saquon Saves the Day

One of the differences between the New York Giants winning or losing these first four weeks has been running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley had a pair of subpar seasons following his ACL injury two years ago, but he appears to be back to his pre-injury form.

Through four games, Barkley leads the league in rushing with 463 yards and he has played a big role in two of New York’s three wins.

In the Giants’ 21-20 season-opening win over the Tennessee Titans, Barkley rushed 18 times for 164 yards and a touchdown.

While Barkley’s 4-yard touchdown run got the scoring started for New York after being down 13-0, it was his two-point conversion score that sealed the win for the Giants.

He also was a key piece in New York’s 21-20 win over the Bears on Sunday.

After quarterback Daniel Jones hurt his ankle and backup Tyrod Taylor went out with a concussion, Barkley was left to run the Wildcat offense in the final quarter.

Jones scored two touchdowns in the first half to give the Giants a lead, but he mainly lined up as a receiver after Taylor exited the game, leaving Barkley to take over. Barkley rushed 31 times for 146 yards.

Against a Packers defense that hasn’t had the easiest time stopping the run, Barkley should be due for another big game in London.

Receivers Rising

After the Packers relied heavily on their ground game to get their first win over the Bears in Week 2, Green Bay’s receivers are starting to make more of an impact.

The loss of wide receiver Davante Adams in the offseason was a major talking point. However, Green Bay drafted a few receivers to help replace him, and veteran pass catchers are also making a difference.

In Green Bay’s 27-10 win over Chicago, running back Aaron Jones led the way to victory, rushing 15 times for 132 yards and a touchdown while also catching a receiving touchdown.

While Jones and fellow running back AJ Dillon remain integral pieces to Green Bay’s success, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is finding ways to connect with his receivers as well.

Rookies Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson each scored their first NFL touchdowns in the past two weeks.

Doubs, who made noise in training camp, has 19 receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns. His first NFL touchdown came in Green Bay’s 14-12 win over Tampa, where he caught eight passes for 73 yards.

Watson has also been a part of the Packers’ success, as his 15-yard touchdown run against the Patriots started Green Bay’s scoring.

While Green Bay’s rookie receivers find their footing, Rodgers has been able to rely on veterans Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.

Cobb has been crucial in third-down moments for the Packers while Lazard has been impactful in all three of Green Bay’s wins.

Lazard scored a touchdown in each of the Packers’ first two wins and he led the team in receiving against the Patriots, catching six passes for 116 yards.

With a solid running game providing stability for Green Bay’s offense, its receiving game should continue to find ways to improve.

Giants vs Packers Prediction

Although Rodgers & Co. got off to a slow start in the first half against the Patriots, the Packers were able to figure it out in the second half to secure a win.

With injuries to both of New York’s quarterbacks, the Packers may be facing another favorable quarterback matchup in London.

While the Packers’ defense may have trouble containing Barkley, the Giants are also dealing with more injuries than just at quarterback. Green Bay should be able to find success both on the ground and in the air. Expect the Packers to cover.
