Giants vs Commanders Betting Predictions

Remember Me?

The New York Giants and Washington Commanders are set to meet just two weeks after playing to a 20-20 tie. Thanks to Seattle’s stunning loss to Carolina, both the Giants and Commanders are still holding down NFC playoff spots. However, the Detroit Lions are suddenly making things interesting.

Washington had a bye week and hasn’t played since facing New York while the Giants were blown out by the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles.

Offensive linemen Ben Bredeson, Joshua Ezeudu, and Shane Lemieux are all questionable for the Giants, as are cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, receiver Richie James, tight end Daniel Bellinger and defensive lineman Leonard Williams. There are some pretty key players on that list.

For Washington, while running back Antonio Gibson is probable, Brian Robinson is questionable. Defensive linemen Chase Young and Montez Sweat, and guard Trai Turner are questionable. Quarterback Carson Wentz is expected to be available for the game, but he will be behind Taylor Heinecke.

Per the NFL playoff odds, the Commanders (+8000) have the 14th-best odds to win the Super Bowl while the Giants come in 17th at +15000.

Giant Concerns

The Giants were 7-2 following a win over Houston and were one of the best stories in the NFL with first-year head coach Brian Daboll. Things have headed in the other direction with New York going 0-3-1 over the last four games.

The Giants did not look anything like a potential playoff team in last week’s loss to Philadelphia. A late touchdown by Richie James made the final score of 48-22 look closer to what transpired on the field.

The ability of Saquon Barkley to carry the offense kept quarterback Daniel Jones from having to win games. Teams have been bottling up Barkley, and Jones has not been able to make enough plays for the Giants to keep on winning.

Barkley only carried the ball nine times in the loss to the Eagles and he should be busier on Sunday night.

Getting Azeez Ojulari back on the field helps with the pass rush. He had two of the Giants’ four sacks against the Eagles.

The Giants have covered against the NFL betting lines in seven of their last 10 games.

Command Position

Washington was being written off after a 1-4 start, and when quarterback Wentz was injured, the naysayers were not viewing the Commanders as a contender for a playoff spot.

The Commanders have gone 5-1-1 with Heinecke at quarterback. One of his best efforts came in the tie with the Giants as he was 27 of 41 for 275 yards with two touchdown passes and no interceptions. He was sacked five times so that is something to keep an eye on.

Terry McLaurin recorded his third 100-yard receiving game of the season against the Giants as he was targeted a season-high 12 times. Injuries in the running back position have made things more challenging. Gibson is trending in the right direction while questions surround rookie Robinson, who is dealing with a quad injury.

Washington has quietly allowed the fourth-fewest yards in the NFL and ranks in the top 10 in both rushing and passing defense. Linebacker Cole Holcomb is out for the season after undergoing foot surgery. Defensive end Chase Young could be nearing a return to the field.

The Commanders are 5-1-1 against the Las Vegas odds in their last seven games.

Giants vs Commanders Picks & Prediction

Predicted Score: Commanders 24, Giants 20

  • Worth Betting on the Moneyline?

The teams are coming off a tie and the moneyline reflects that with the Giants priced at +180 and the Commanders come in -220. There is some added information to work with since the teams just played. If those who bet online have a strong inclination one way or the other, it would be worth going that way even if the payout won’t be that lucrative.

  • Worth Betting ATS?

Four of the last five games between the division rivals have been decided by three points or less as the 4½-point line is certainly going to generate some action. The last four times that the Commanders were favored by more than four points against the Giants, Washington went 2-2 straight up and 2-2 against the spread.

The Giants looked overwhelmed last week against the Eagles and that is why the spread is more than a field goal. This could be the season for the Giants, as a loss could be crushing for a team trying to land a playoff spot. Keeping the game four points or closer seems like a reasonable expectation.

  • Worth Betting on the Totals?

Only four games on the Week 15 schedule have lower totals than the 40½-point total for this matchup.

The last five games between the teams have had 39, 43, 59, 29 and 40 points scored and that seems like a pretty solid number. Nine of Washington’s last 11 games would have finished under the total as would have six of the last 10 games played by the Giants.

The game doesn’t figure to end up 20-20 again, but it could very well come in just over that 40½ number.
