Jets vs Viking Betting Analysis

Vikings After 10th Win

There was hype surrounding the Vikings, but it has slowed a bit since a 40-3 blowout home loss to Dallas. Minnesota is closing in on its first NFC North Division title in five years. Meanwhile, the Jets are a surprising 7-4 but split their last four.

Looming is a potential showdown between Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson, perhaps the best receiver in the NFL, and Defensive Rookie of the Year front-runner Sauce Gardner. That may be an intriguing game within the game.

White is Right

Zach Wilson was expected to be the quarterback of the future with the New York Jets. That still might happen. His struggles this season forced coach Robert Saleh to turn to Mike White.

White’s 2022 debut resulted in 315 yards (three touchdowns) in a win over Chicago. The Bears did trade away their best defensive player (linebacker Roquan Smith), and are hardly an elite defense. However, White connected with rookie Garrett Wilson on a pair of scores, throwing another to second-year receiver Elijah Moore.

Zach Wilson had just 77 passing yards at New England in his last game. He has just two touchdown passes (and five interceptions) this season.

White had a 400-yard passing game last season against a Cincinnati team that would advance to the Super Bowl. This wasn’t the first time he made an impact.

An average of 67.3 points were scored in the four games White appeared last season. The Jets are a better defensive team this season, so that’s one reason why this Sunday’s total is at 44½.

Running back Michael Carter left the Chicago game (injured ankle), with rookie Zovovan Knight running ended with 69 rush yards, adding 34 on three receptions. Carter is questionable, as are offensive linemen Duane Brown and George Fant.

Secondary Concerns

The Vikings bounced back from the debacle against Dallas in a game where the Cowboys converted on 12-of-17 third-down chances. However, despite having the ball for 60% of the time against the Pats, New England had more yards and averaged two more yards per play.

Minnesota did hold New England scoreless on three drives that reached the red zone. That, along with a special-teams score, avoids losing again.

However, those games raised questions about the Vikings‘ playoff prognosis. The 9-2 record looks impressive, but a scoring differential of just +5 is troubling, however.

The Vikings devoted two high draft picks on defensive backs, and both promising rookies (cornerback Andrew Booth and safety Lewis Cine) are on injured reserve. Cornerback Cameron Dantzler is also out. That leaves Minnesota thin in the secondary.

The offense has been bolstered by acquiring tight end T.J. Hockenson. However, running back Dalvin Cook has been held under 50 yards in two of his last four games, so that needs to change because putting the offense on the shoulders of quarterback Kirk Cousins is not good.

Jets vs Vikings Picks & Prediction

Predicted Score: Vikings 23, Jets 20

  • Worth Betting on the Moneyline?

Those who believe in Mike White as the answer for the Jets might want to jump on the +135 Moneyline. The injuries in the Minnesota secondary will make that tempting.

Minnesota has already defeated Miami and Buffalo, the top two teams in the AFC East, so avoiding the Moneyline would be a wise course of action for those who bet online.

  • Worth Betting ATS?

Six of Minnesota’s wins have been by seven or fewer points, three of them being three-point decisions. Choosing the Jets to stay within a field goal isn’t the worst idea.

The Jets have been in six one-score games, so this could very well be another close contest involving a young New York team still learning how to win. Check whether the line moved because lines of 2½ or 3½ could be much different than a three-point line.

  • Worth Betting on the Totals?

The total opened at 41 and with the money coming in on the over, it moved to 44.

Each of the last six Jets games would have come in under that number. The New York defense has surrendered four offensive touchdowns in the last four. Twelve of the 22 games played by the teams went under the total.

Minnesota’s games are higher-scoring than the ones played by the Jets, with more than 50 points scored in six of the Vikings’ last nine games.

This has the feel of a game that could finish around the 43-45 range, so it could be a risky play to bet the totals.
